whoa some LA hostility... visiting is NOT like living here, by the way... I think LA's a wonderful place, but no it's not like what they show on TV. it's like a huge spread out version of NYC. and I completely disagree the people are all mean... COMPLETELY. just be friendly and they'll be friendly back. if people don't speak english, just smile and be polite.

there's tons to do if you find the right things. but it depends on what you're looking to do. there's pretty much a "town" for every ethnic group there is in the world (that makes for a ton of great and diverse places to get a meal =) ). there's a ton of museums and indie galleries like LA county museum of art, getty museum of art, museum of tolerance holocaust museum, natural history museum, la brea tar pits just to name some off the top of my head. you can go to burbank and tour the warner bros. studios. there's almost every sort of theme park nearby (some are in orange county) including disneyland, knott's berry farm, six flags magic mountain, and raging waters. hollywood blvd. is always fun to go and stare at the weirdos LOL. grauman's chinese is also a must-see. and maybe LA is not a "beach town" as said before, but we are most certainly on the beach. santa monica, malibu, etc. check out the santa monica pier and third street promenade for shopping and more street performers. I think it's fun too to go driving around in hollywood hills/beverly hills and look at the pretty houses =) and dream that one day you can spend 10 million and get your own!

I'm pretty sure you will need to rent a car to get around... probably couldn't (or wouldn't want to) do it on the bus. I know I wouldn't!

and no I've never met a celebrity. never even seen one (at least, out on the street like a normal person). and I've lived here my whole life. but, I think I'm the only one I know who hasn't seen one, though =) so I bet your chances are good, especially if you know where to go, like kitson clothing store or the ivy restaurant.. apparently those are hotspots?

come to LA and check it out =) I think as long as you have an open mind, you will like it. I think a lot of travellers come here expecting to be blown away just by LA. but you should encompass all of southern california cause it's really an amazing place to live.

.....ok my answer is like 64 million words.

Los Angeles is huge--that's why it's usually divided into several regions.

West L.A.= wealthy areas like Beverly Hills, Malibu, Brentwood, Bel-Air etc. Most celebrities live in this region for obvious reasons.
Upper middle class-upper class status.

North L.A.= "The Valley"--that is, the San Fernando Valley. Middle class suburbs.

South L.A.=poorer neighborhoods of L.A.
East L.A.= poor neighborhoods of L.A.
Central L.A= downtown L.A. Not so nice area of L.A. either.

You can often spot celebrities shopping at Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Sunset, or near the beaches in Malibu. I have yet to meet a celebrity though..

I had been to LA last year. I was with a cousin. We drove all the way from the Bay area and the first time we reached LA, I hated it. It was too warn, too traffic, too congested. We went to the Universal Studios, Disneyland, Hollywood. Happiness is not on what glitters but on the simple things we do and see. Once you get out of LA, you will feel relieved. I love both San Francisco and San Diego but I will never love LA.

the grass is always greener on the other side I've wanted to move to England my whole life but if you really want to move I would start applying for a green card?(don't exactly know what they are called) It will take some time for it to be processed and there arent a lot of jobs over here. It's tough everywhere and you'll probably hate LA after a while too.

I agree with the guys above. I live there off and on, but never really enjoy it. First of all, it's not at all like what you see on T.V. When I first moved there, I thought I was moving to a beach city!!! It's not though, it's like NYC but very spread out and multi-cultural. The people are rushed (mainly because of horrible traffic), fake, and somewhat rude. The streets and parks are dirty- even the nice ones are frequented by the homeless. The beaches around L.A. are gross- compared to those in florida or hawaii.

I have met many celebrities. Sorry to say this- but many are idiots. They can't help it; they've been fed so much crap by their agents, publicists, etc- they just lose touch with reality. For example, if you are used to having a person get you your special bottled water on a regular basis, you may forget how to get it for yourself or you may be offended when you go somewhere and they don't have your brand of water. I see this all the time. However, there are those who manage themselves with dignity- but they have to work REALLY HARD at it. But these ones can be very nice and normal and they try not to take themselves too seriously.

i live in orange county not LA but i randomly drive up there to go shopping, have dinner, or just hang out with friends.
personally, i love LA...
yes, its true that there are some ugly areas but every city has that...people should focus on the good aspects not just on the negative.
theres so much to do and see...the kodak center, melrose, the best restaurants, the theatre, not to mention that theres tons of beaches and entertainment...there's no way you can get bored...

Please the stars do not hang out or come to L.A. I not interested in meeting what you call stars/celebrities or do I live for the gossip. about them. You can see the stars at the professional basketball games and baseball games and hockey that's where I usually see them at the Laker and Clipper games.

Let me tell you --- LA is the most overrated city on the face of the earth. I have never met a single person who really enjoy traveling there.
