Angels come in all different forms. An angel can be the little old man that helps a child that is lost return home. Anyone that does something nice for someone just out of the kindness of their heart to me is an angel. God put it in their heart to help that person at that particular time. They follow the word of God and do as he directs them.

There is barely anything in the Bible about the physical appearance of angels, but in Genisis, Saul wrestles a man that is actually an angel. John Milton who authored Paradise Lost, depicted all the angels as human-like essences. Many renissance painters depicted them as athletic human creatures with wings. It is also said that there are many different levels of angels too.

the Bible describes angels in great detail.. seraphim's are covered in eyes and have 6 wings.. and cherubims have wings and 4 faces.
they look nothing like what we've seen in pictures and figurines.

Isaiah 6:2
Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

Ezekiel 10:14
Each of the cherubim had four faces: One face was that of a cherub, the second the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.

Revelation 4:8
And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

Since angel is ancient Hebrew for messenger, I would think they look like the Western Union guy or the Mail Man.

You can pass a true, genuine divine angel in the street and they look just like you and I. On the other hand, people have seen them as towering, glowing beings.....I think its personal - whatever means angelic to you. This is a good page on angels...

Angels are spirits without bodies, who possess superior intelligence, gigantic strength, and surpassing holiness.
They are always in white with a pair of wings on their back.....

I think they are portrayed however you choose to "see" them. The pictures you see are just how the artist sees them, but I think it's a personal choice!

I think that's left to our own interpretation. When we encounter them, they appear as we do, but I think that by themselves they are formless. The drawings and paintings are simply the artists rendition...how would you paint something that has no form? Same with God, we can't know what he looks like. And I agree with Don H. that more often than not they are felt, but on rare occasions we are allowed to see.
