If the first ressurection occurs after the great tribulation, then how could their be a previous ressurection???

Revelations 20: 4-6
Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection.

However if the resurrection occurs at the end of the tribulation period, the same time the two witnesses are taken up to heaven. Then it works out perfectly.

The first resurrection is regarding those who will rule with Christ in heaven over the earth. Revelation gives a specific number (144,000) who are chosen specifically by God to will be kings and priests with Christ to reign over the earth. The second resurrection is a resurrection here on earth. Revelation describes this one as a resurrection consisting of both the righteous and the unrighteous. According to the scriptures, those who have died (except as the result of judgement by God - ie, Sodom and Gommorah, Adam and Eve, those of Noah's day) have been acquitted of sin. So those who didn't have the opportunity to learn the truth about God and his purposes or who chose a life course alienated from God will be given a second chance, so to speak, to conform to God's standards. That's what the 1000 years is for...to bring mankind back to God's original purpose for us, that being to live eternally on earth in paradise conditions. So during the 1000 years humans will be brought back to a perfect standing before God and the earth will be brought back to paradise conditions as God intended. After the 1000 years, Christ hands control of the kingdom back to God so that he can be "all things to all" and then God releases Satan and his demons from the abyss. They are allowed one more short opportunity to 'test' humans who are now perfect. Any who choose to rebel at that time will suffer the consequence of eternal destruction along with Satan and his demons.

It was saying that those who were being brought back to life, were the first in many for this to happen to them. It is not defined as THE first but merely the first in that sequence of events.
