I want to buy a new digital camera, and in the past I've always bought them straight from whichever store, like FutureShop. I just go, pick the one I want, and pay for it.
Lately, though, I've been browsing online to see what's available, and the prices on some of the sites online are quite a lot better than instore. And I don't mean e-bay or anything.
I've been looking at nextag.ca - is this a good portal site?
IS it really economical to buy online? Or is it safer to buy instore?

Yes, it is.
There are a couple of major online photo stores - like B&H or BeachCamera. They seem to be quite good - the selection is great and prices. I don't know where you are coming from, but for me in California, I don't have to pay sales tax buying from these guys.
The only problem is that you cannot hold the camera in your hands before buying it.
But you can always try the camera in store, then buy it online.
Also, make sure you read the return policy carefully and you are OK with their terms.

llya1725 is 100% correct. Don't foget shipping charges. Another store that's been around a long time is Adorama and also Abe's of Maine. You'll find all of these stores in any issue of I think it's called now Popular Photography & Imaging. My last purchase of a Fugi Camera went through Amazon.com but the actual store that sent camera was Beach Camera in Edison, NJ

i would recommend amazon, they do great bargins and on most of them it's free delivery, ebay don't give that much off and it is not free shipping as well. i got a 9megapixel camera from there only for£130 and in stores it is around £400 odd.
