Well Ravensfan is partially correct. You want a balanced diet. One that includes lean protein especially chicken and fish (not fried) with some beef or pork. Other fowls like turkey, Cornish game hen etc are fine as well. As much as I love duck, only have that occasionally as it is high in fat.

You need to get most of your carbs from vegetables and fruits. You can have baked potatoes or rice or bread but only in limited amounts...sorry kiddo but you can only have 1 junk food a day and no cheating you can only have the single size serving.

Pick a day of the week that is your cheat day. That's the one day of the week were you allow yourself to have ice cream or pizza or something that you should not normally have. One day and don't try and make up for it by pigging out. You have to be reasonable in your consumption.

Finally, working out. Muscle is built when you use it. You want to lift 80 percent of your max for 5 repitions and do 3 sets of the 5 reps. For example lets say you can bench press 100 pounds. 80 percent of that would be 80 pounds. Once you can lift that amount 5 times without help and you do 3 sets you increase the weight again. Also, make sure to drink water before, during and after each workout. If your not already doing it, add a multi vitamin a good one, go to a nutrition store and ask for help on that.

If you are using free weights you must have a spotter, if you are using a machine you should be safe working out alone. You should work out every other day. Your body needs a day of rest to rebuild the damaged muscles.

Also, HOW YOU DO THE EXERCISE IS CRITICAL to how effective the workout is and not getting injured. Please find someone to show you how the first couple of workouts.

How much to eat? Well, eat until you just start to feel full, and eat slowly. And, eat 5 or 6 meals a day. YES, 5 or 6 smaller meals with chicken, veggies, and maybe a small handful of raw nuts, almonds or walnuts are particularly healthy. AND SODA, UNLESS ITS DIET COUNTS AS JUNK FOOD. DON'T USE GATORADE OR ANY OF THOSE OTHER DRINKS AS THEY CONTAIN A TON OF SUGAR.

OK, ONE LAST THING. YOU NEED TO GIVE IT TIME. YOU WILL FIND THAT THE FIRST MONTH ALMOST NOTHING IS HAPPENING, THEN SLOWLY IN THE SECOND MONTH YOU WILL NOTICE AND THEN BY THE END OF THE THIRD MONTH YOU WILL ADD WEIGHT EVERY OTHER WEEK OR SO.

ONCE YOU GET TO THE SIZE YOU WANT, CHANGE TO 10 REPS AND 3 SETS. This will keep you at the same muscle size and you will stay great looking.

You need to maintain a balance of carbs, fats, and proteins when wanting to build muscle. Eating all day would also lead to you gaining fat along with muscle. If you eat about 3000 calories a day, emphasing lean proteins, and a balanced diet without junk food, you should be able to gain muscle. Carbs alone and cals won't help you out.

Make sure you are eating enough meals a day and you're not over working yourself when it comes to the workout part. Dont eat carbs all day. 1 serving of carbohydrates per day is enough. You dont wanna eat just carbs because eventually all that will end up turning into fat and you'll probably have more fat than muscle.
