Pay? Maybe not, but you WILL have to complete and file a Maine Income tax return. This is because the income was earned in the State of Maine, and since NH has NO income tax (Live free or Die!) then Maine has 1st dibs on those earnings. As I do not know the tax rules in Maine, you may or may not have to pay more than was withheld from your spouse's paycheck. If there were no withholdings, then you may have to pay depending upon the results of your Maine Income tax return calculations.

If there is a state income tax in Maine, your husband will be responsible for that state tax. You are not responsible for any taxes in Maine except in the sense that the taxes are taken from your family income. If taxes are due, he should recieve a w-2 that indicates any state taxes taken out. In most cases taxes would already have been deducted and it will only be a matter of finding out if it is necessary to file a return.

Your spouse would file a non-resident return for Maine, showing only the income earned in Maine.

If she worked more than 10 days in Maine she must file a return in Maine regardless of tax liability.

You are liable for tax on the income you earned in Maine. Income earned on work in NH or dividends, interest etc earned while you are a resident of NH will not be taxed by Maine.

You will probably have to file for those state taxes as well. I went to www.expresstaxrefund.com to file my taxes and had no problem filing living in a seperate state than where I work. If you even had a question you can contact the free tech support line they offer. Best site I ever dealt with.
