Try adding fish oil capsules to his food daily along with a raw egg each week. Massaging the dog daily may help get the oil glands working better too. If you use electric heat in your house, this may contribute to the dry skin problem also.

Okay first off....bath your dog as little as possible.....if bath is needed...use a special shampoo for sensitive or dry skin(usually contains oatmeal).Brush your dog every day....this helps stimulate the skin to produce it's natural oils and removes dead skin cells.
Last but not least....your dog needs more fatty acids in his diet.....you can get skin and coat supplements in liquid or pill form(I would recommend liquid....works better). They can be found at any good pet supply place or even at Wal-Mart.

My Shar Pei mix also has dry skin. My vet suggested taking a vitamin supplement--3V Skin Formula. She has been taking it for a few months now and it has improved her situation. Maybe you could look into something similar?

try going to www.earthclinic.com for alot of home remedies for dry , itchy skin. there are also testimonials for these home remedies as well!! Apple Cider Vinegar
w/ mother from the health food store works well for the itchies unless the dog has open sores, then it burns. I fill up a spray bottle w/ ACV [apple cider vinegar], undiluted, and spray my dog with it once a day and her itchies are controlled now and it makes her sooooo silky....although she smells like a salad for awhile until it dries.!

Try using prescription exfoliating shampoo if you havent' already.
It is the only thing that keeps my doggie from flaking up. It cost about $20 a bottle. You can get it from Bansfeld hospital in Petsmart. Works like a charm.

I went through this with one of my dogs just a few moths ago.. we had patches in her hair missing from where she had scratched and chewed so much. I changed her diet first off, I bought moisturizing shampoo to bathe her with and I started putting Eucerine on her bare spots.. she is much better now, all dry patches are gone and all bald spots have regrown fur.

Wrinkles-hmmm, lots of them.
I would try rubbing aloa vera on his skin, and use a q tip to get into some of those wrinkles.
A humidifier will help a lot.
Actually our houses are dryer than a dessert in the winter time...so taking him out side for walks is good for his skin too.
