I use anywhere from two to four cranks of the salt/pepper grinder. Then add more at the table if needed, but that's rarely needed. Sea Salt is much better than regular salt - and tricolored peppercorns are better than plain black.

basically it means just add a little at a time, taste. and keep doing that until your taste is pleased,

add a little salt & a little pepper. taste.
add more...taste..

also, be sure to put it in your hand before puttin it in the recipe.

once it's in you cant take it out.

"To taste" means your personal taste- how salty and peppery you like your food to be. Usually I just put in salt when I'm cooking pasta or vegetables and not later on in recipes- I let each person salt at the table if they choose to. Lots of people don't want the extra sodium in their diets so I guess "to taste" makes that an even more personal issue!

I would start with a 1/2 teaspoon of each. You can always add more, but it is pretty hard to remove spices if you put to much. We like hot and spices foods, so I always double the amount of pepper that is stated in a recipe.

I would put in some and then taste it and then adjust it if it needs more salt and pepper

I start out with a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper. I like both, so I end up adding more. It's your own personal preference.

It really depends on the quantity of people you're serving. What I like to do is taste the food before I season it then it's easier for me to measure!

As much (or as little) as it takes to make it taste good to me - hence the term "to taste." It's a personal thing.
