I let my kids ( now 10 and 11 ) get up by themselves and go to the TV room. this room was set up for them with safe toys and tv videos for them. when they were really young they would still come in, but I would tell them that they can go to their special room, mommy needs 10 min. to wake up- this would often give me an extra 20-30 to rest. good luck.

With a newborn I'm sure your very tired, but a 2 and 4 year old unsupervised even for 15 wonderful more minutes could be asking for trouble. Try having your spouse take a feeding or two to let you get a few more minutes at night this may help you wake more easily. Try to catch a few winks when the kids are napping during the day instead of trying to play catch up on household choirs. Remember, Kids grow up fast. Good luck

I'd worry about the trouble a 2 & 4 year old would get into without a parent's watchful eye - choking for example, takes less than 15 minutes. Obviously you're exhausted being up all night with your infant, but is 15 minutes really going to cure a night of sleeplessness? If you have a partner, I would appeal to him (or her), beg if you have to - but you shouldn't have to if he's available! Have him serve or take the kids out for Saturday morning pancakes while you have an hour or so to sleep in. Should that not be an option, what about afternoon naps for everyone - even the older ones can at least have 1 hour of quiet time in their room while you get rested. Last option if the older ones won't nap call on the help of friends/family/sitter to for an hour while you and baby sleep.

I have four children, my youngest is four. The others are 12,16 and 19 so I have no problem with them as they are grown but my little one wakes up early even on weekends and i get up with him. I know what you are going through with the new born because when my 12 year old was born she did not sleep during the night and the other two were 4 and 8 and they used to get up really early in the morning, I had no energy at all but eventually the baby will sleep more and you will not be so tired in the morning. Congratulations on the addition to your family and good luck.

You have to get up with a two and four year old. They can hurt themselves and need parental supervision at all times. It's hard, but try to take naps during the day when the children are napping. I know that's probably when you get things done around the house, but it will all wait for you. Take care of yourself first and the house second. You have a newborn and precious toddlers that need you. Please ask for help from your husband and family. Maybe they could watch the children while you take a nap or do laundry. If you can afford to get a maid for a few weeks that can be such a load off! Good Luck!

My son is 5 and he lets me sleep. He gets up turns on cartoons and plays with his toys. I leave a cup of juice in the fridge and a snack on the counter. Then when my daughter(2) wakes up, he comes and wakes me up. its really nice since he likes to get up at 6 am, so i get an extra hour or two to sleep.

My daughter (who is 5) let's me sleep in. She'll get up and play in her room or color in the living room. She'll wake me up when ever she gets hungry. Normally the dog wakes me and my husband up before the kid because she needs to go out side. Now if only I could get my daughter to let the dog out in the mornings to. LOL I'm just kidding she knows she's not allowed to open any doors! :)

I get up with my daughter, and get her a drink/breakfast, then she goes back to play and I either lay on the couch, or go back to bed. She is 6, when she was smaller, I always got up with her.
