I joined because I was going nowhere in life. Seriously I had no goals or anything just living day to day. I knew I was capable of more but didn't know how to get there. When I joined I had no idea what I was getting into and hated it at first. It grew on me. The longer I stayed, the more focused I became. The military forced me to have short and long term goals and once I had them I liked them. It's not for everyone but I would say you explore every opportunity including college. The military paid my way through and made a better person for it. Not a bad deal.

I was on a fast track to nowhere - who knows there I would be right now. I needed discipline and a dose of reality. I was doing a lot of s**t that could have gotten me killed. Best decision I ever made! I owe my life to the Army.
I too had wanted to go into law enforcement - thinking that if I became an MP, that would be a good route - and for a lot of people that is a great way to get into law enforcement.
Just really think about it before you do it - probably one of if not the biggest commitments you will ever make, but for me - it was 100% worth it.

When I graduated from college the job market wasn't good. So I figured I would join get some experience, travel, and get out of NJ for awhile. It was an interesting experience and once I got out alot of doors opened for me. For law enforcement you'll probably end up being an MP/SP. Good Luck.

I joined at the age of 31, out of respect and duty to my country. I left a good job to become an MP. I love my job and have recently returned from Iraq. This is like a second family for me, the benefits are good, money for college loans repayment, free housing, chance to travel and see the world, i have been all over Europe and even Iraq/Kuwait and Qatar. At least i can say that much. Its a good experience, even for the old guys like me.

From birth had a love of ships and boats. Then the Iraqi's hit the USS STARK and that ticked me off big time and wanted revenge. Thus my naval career was started. Once I fought my two wars I got out. The navy wasn't the adventure I had seen in the movies too bad that would have been fun.

I joined the Army National Guard. It had more to do with what the Guard meant to me growing up. Guardsmen helped my family during floods on numerous occasions and I wanted to do the same.
I became an officer so that I could help influence decisions made about training, implementation and plans.
I have never been dissapointed in those decisions. I love my job!

My father had been a Marine, my uncles had been in the Army and Air Force, and we were raised steeped in military history and the proud traditions of America.
It was a natural step to join. Heck, I actually could not recall a time when I didn't think I would serve.

To get away from the trouble I was in at home and get away from bad influences around me (little did I know I was the source of the trouble). The military did straighten me out and gave me the skills I needed to land a great career. I have no regrets it was the best decision I have ever made and some where in my time in the service I started caring about the world around me.
