Golden Retrievers are my favorite dogs. I've had three already and I haven't found anything wrong with them yet.
To have the best golden I would make sure that they're AKC registered. The AKC registered ones don't have problems that the mutts.
There are two different types of goldens; a golden golden, and a copper penny. A copper penny is more of a showy dog and I prefer them over a regular golden.
They need lots of love and attention. They also make great hunting dogs and are very quiet and kind. They are great with kids.
For a calmer golden I would get an adult puppies take lots of patience.

There are two that I really enjoy. German Shepherds and Rottweilers both have proved to become part of my family. The rotts have a bad reputation but are as gentle as a puppy even as adults and the intelligence of the German shepherds can not be compared with any other breed.

"American" - just like most of us, with no definitive "ethnic background" (breed). Every mutt/mongrel/mixed breed dog I've known has been loving, loyal, fun, lovable - all the good attributes of any dog.
Mixed breed dogs can also be found at your local shelter - just waiting for you to adopt them and provide them their "forever homes". Take a look; you'll find one to love - and you'll be saving a life, too!

My favorite breed of dog is Miniature Schnauzer. Salt & pepper (frosty grey). They are affectionate and energetic in a good way. Great companions! I've got two of them :)

The Miniature Poodle!
All dogs rule, actually. But poodles get my top vote.

Jack Russel is my current type of dog and so far the best I have had. Training was a breeze! Although when he came to me he was sick and almost didnt make it. I nursed him back to health which wasnt easy. http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p294/crisnark/Jaxxx.jpg
