One who dont bite, dont bark and sleeps all day !!...
Just Kidding....I have the most placcid little dog and I got her from the animal shelter five and half years ago...She understands every word I say and tell her and she obeys...She does not chew up anything, no accidents indoors and lets me know when someone is around, or gives alerts for danger as in fires or snakes etc...She is a chichauhau Xed with a Tenterfield Terrier.
I know she has a very rare temprement that will probably not be replaced...If you can find the same breed of dog you will be blessed and loved back..tenfold..good luck with your searching.

these are my favorite small dog and they are so cute i have 2
Boston Terrier

Owning
His coat is easy to care for when it comes to grooming, a few strokes with a soft brush will keep his short, smooth coat gleaming. He is loving and sensitive, merry and bright, at times a clown and has a deep love for his family and children. Usually he will get along well with other family pets if introduced to them at a young age.

Characteristics
The Boston Terrier is a lively, highly intelligent, smooth coated, short-headed, compactly built, short-tailed, well balanced dog, brindle, seal or black in color and evenly marked with white. The head is in proportion to the size of the dog and the expression indicates a high degree of intelligence. The body is rather short and well knit, the limbs strong and neatly turned, the tail is short and no feature is so prominent that the dog appears badly proportioned. The dog conveys an impression of determination, strength and activity, with style of a high order; carriage easy and graceful. A proportionate combination of ''Color and White Markings'' is a particularly distinctive feature of a representative specimen.

Well, most small breed dogs are very energetic as puppys so if you do plan to get a small dog I would recommend that you get an older dog instead of a puppy. An older chihuahua would be great, they are calm and very affectionate. Or if you want a mixed breed there are tons of small mixed breed dogs in animal shelters that need homes.

Good Luck,

Try a Corgi {smarter than you think}, or Basset [couldn't care about anything].
