There are three credit bureaus. They all individually keep track of your credit and debts fro the last 7 to 10 years. They each have slight variations of how they determine a score and how often they update your credit, but for the most part they use the same system. Credit scores can range from 350 to 850.

The 3 different credit bureaus are:

Trans Union
Equifax
Experian

By law, each will give you one free report per year to see if there is any information that is incorrect. If it is wrong, you can write a letter to that bureau to "dispute" that information and that company has 30 days to research and correct the issue. The free credit reports won't have a score, however. They include all the information, but no score.

As posted earlier, go to annualcreditreport.com. You will get your free credit reports; the only problem is that they do not list your credit score. You will have to pay for that.

www.annualcreditreport.com is good but beware you can only get one report per year for free and it does not include a credit score.
