Google now offer an online spreadsheet application which is ideal for more simple tables but you can also download a free full office package equivalent to Microsoft Office called OpenOffice which is actually rather good. You can use either of these by going to the following links:

http://docs.google.com/

If, however, you just need to view a Excel file without editing then you can use the Excel Viewer 2003 which Microsoft provide for free. Grab it here:
