I've been looking up answers in Google, but all that comes up is carpal tunnel and diabetes, but the symptoms aren't quite the same...

For pretty much my entire life (I'm now 22), I can't get a strong grip at all in the morning. If I try to pick things up when I first wake up, my hands are frequently too weak to hold them. When I try to squeeze things, it's a feeling close to numbness, but more like I can tell my hand is there, I just can't control it like I normally do.

It goes away if I just wait a while and move around or if I splash cold water on my hands.

I've never had any serious problem with it; it's mostly just a little frustrating now and then. I'm just curious if anyone might know what causes it, or if anyone else has the same thing.

this may be due to lack of vitamins particularly vitamin B 6& B12 in your diet which may be the cause of weakness of nerves .in night if u sleep in one particular position & ur hands r in same position for long the nerves may give tingling feeling & numbness. take vitamin B 6& 12 & Mecobalamine .

I'm no doctor but if splashing cold water on them helps, you have some kind of inflammation which can be carpal tunnel or tendonitis. Do your hands ever fall asleep, especially at night? This is another symptom of the same.

I have tendonitis in both my hands from long periods of time spent writing. Traditional doctors gave me splints to wear at night and prescription strength ibuprofen and nsaids. I found the most relief from B complex vitamins and a chiropractor. Traditional doctors usually look at just relieving your symptoms and a good chiropractor will look at the root cause of the problem and try to fix it from the inside out.

To your health-

I had the same problem for a while too. I did some experimenting and found out that if I didn't eat anything after 7pm and limited my salt intake, my hands no longer were numb in the morning. It took about a week, but after that I haven't had any problems! HTH!!

I woke up one morning in Nov. 2005 with a numb hand! I let it go for a year. It got worse. I started having trouble walking and I kept falling. FINALLY, I went to the doctor. I have Multiple Sclerosis! Don't wait to long! Go see a doctor!

I remember having this as a kid a lot and wondering about it. I know exactly what you mean. Funny, if it really is a B-vitamins deficiency, how interesting that I was a meat eater at that time.

How do you feel about bananas??? Seriously :) It helps sooo much. You need your potassium darlin' :) My husband has the same deal and if he keeps having maybe 1 every 1-2 days it works great :)
