I purchased a new hp dv6000 laptop. I installed the arabic windows by mistake so i had to return it to the dealership to install the english version. Got the comptuer back, fine and working. The following day, i got this msg when i try to start it "windows cannot start because system32/hal.dl is missing. please reinstall the file"
Its one of those new laptops so it doesnt come with recovery or windows cds. Instead they have a partition on the hard disk for that purpose. Ironically, i cannot access that partition or anything else for that matter. What can i do to fix this problem?

Thank you everyone. All helpful. Except, i cannot access windows at all. Not in safe mode or last working configuration or anything. And i get the error msg on a black screen. Cant type anything there. Any other suggestions?

Take it back to the dealership and get up em and make em fix it...
thats what id do.you shouldn't have to waist your time trying to fix a problem they probably caused.......go back to the store and tell them about the error and if its a new laptop you should still have warranty on it.
