No this isn't normal so you need to find out why you are so uncomfortable. Please make arrangements to see your surgeon ASAP.

March is almost 1 year ago.
Your hip should be well recovered by now, providing you had no set backs after surgery etc.
Most people are quite mobile and pain free by the 6th month.
Providing you are not over doing it, with excersise, driving etc.
While you need to work up a good daily excersise regime, you must remember it takes up to 1 year to make sure the hip, is settled into knew spot.
It can come out again, and well then its surgery again,
Get a check up quickly, and don,t take the answer, that its normal to be in some pain.
12 months, is plenty of time to be able to use fairly normally, maybe with cane etc, and maybe a little pain , stiffness after sitting long periods, or walking distances or long drives etc.
But definately shouldn,t be killing you as you describe.
I would say you need immediate check up with who ever di the op, because you may have popped it out, or displaced it, also you could have infection, which would cause inflamation, this would be what is causing discomfort.
Either of these is very painfull, and if infection, can be fixed with anti biotics and an ant inflamatory, like brufen, which addresses the pain too.
But if displaced, popped, it needs immediate physio and possibly surgery.
Get checked ASAP
