No, cats do not get kennel cough. If your dog has this, your cat cannot catch it. Cats can get a cold, also referred to as Upper Respiratory Infection, but it is not kennel cough.

Cats cannot contract this disease. In dogs, they get kennel cough from the bacteria Bordetella bronchiseptica, and can be found in places like kennels, groomers, any public place where there is exposure to many dogs that may be unvaccinated. Cats may show the same signs such as coughing/sneezing, which may be due in part by an upper respiratory infection. If any coughing in a cat persists, they should be seen by a veterinarian to be sure there isn't anything seriously wrong with the cat.

Cats get something called Rhinotracitis...I think that's spelled wrong...it's the Feline Herpes Virus.
Two of our four cats have this virus.
It will start out with a cough that cough sounds like they are trying to get up a hairball.
From there it will progress into sneezing, runny nose and runny eyes.
The whites of the eyes will become very red or pink...like pink eye in a human.
The virus can lay dorment for long periods of time and outbreaks can be brought on in times of stress.
Once they have the virus they have it for life.

Cats can develop upper respiratory problems from confinement in a multi cat environment. It is caused by the herpes virus which is ever-present in the cat's body. This infection which manifests itself in sneezing, coughing, runny eyes can become chronic and also cause eye problems etc. So, it is best to keep kitty at home and arrange for a "pet caregiver" to feed and clean up if you are away.

My cat may have this. It sounds like she is sneezing and coughing at the same time. SHe gets really low to the ground. She does it for a bit and then we put her in front of her bowl of water and she drinks sip then stops. I even tried to get it on the DVD camera to show the vet next time we go.
