If the car has been serviced regularly its whole life, and you continue with this pattern, then there is no reason why it shouldn't reach 200k and beyond.....
Also check that the bodywork is in good nick and that rust isn't going to cause you a headache....

B4 u go and buy it, do some homework because BMW although they build great cars there are some to avoid. I cannot remember 100% but I am sure the 318 had probs with engines. If you can afford it and the car has this engine , the 2.5 engine is bomb proof on the bottom end AND NOT TOO BAD EITHER so find out what the best engine is, as you dont want to be cheesed off. buy later models as earlier ones had a few niggling probs.

I wouldn't worry about it. BMW has been noted in being moderate-to-high in the engine longevity department. It is debatable but an honest mechanic would tell you it's not a problem. With technological advances, engine life is nothing like it was 50 years ago. I went to automotive Service school, and one of my teachers told me 50,000 miles in 1960 is similar to 200,000 miles of a car today. Before you buy, however, make sure to check the Kelly Blue Book value and check the title for any problems (accidents, stolen, etc.), and also to get a thorough mechanic's pre-buy check (this is a must). Good luck!

we bought a bm wth 180k on the clock and have travelled regularly between glasgow, portsmouth & plymouth (at least 12 times last year when moving). In 4 yrs it's past it's mot everytime and hasn't cost a penny except to replace tyres and never has it broken down. Never had a more reliable car.

Well, the way that you take care of it is not going to matter if the other owner(s) didn't take care of it properly. If they can verify that they did, then your vehicle can last for a while with proper maintenance. 120,000 is never a factor unless it was not taken good care of. You never know, it might have had the motor rebuilt 1,000 miles ago. Do your research on it.

Buying a beemer - even a new one - is insane. Unless, of course, enriching a dealer is at the top of your list of priorities. By the time they reach 40,000 mi, they get 15-20 repairs, and if out of warranty... do your math considering the fact that "luxury" vehicles rarely leave a dealership without their owners leaving AT LEAST $1,000 there.

I wouldn't worry about the mileage - BMWs are meant to be able to do this sort of mileage without a problem - just like Mercedes - they are only just getting going at 150k miles.
