and can specify what organs get donated to who....not that i'm gonna care when i'm dead but it just seems to make more sense that someone younger than 40 get a heart than someone above 60.

You can print a card there and specify which organs you want to donate or "as needed" As to where they go, my understanding is that the transplant center decides as much by "best match" to avoid rejection than any other factor. I don't believe they offer you the option to tell them "where" or generallly "who" to donate to.

(been carrying a card for years; you should also "Check off" your dr. license if your state offers the option. )

The only thing you have to do is make sure that on your license it says you are a organ donor. As far as you saying who can have the organs and who can not the only thing you can do is have a will drawn up. But all that is not necessary, because you can bet that your organs would go to the best candidate first. That is why there is such a long waiting list for people who are needing a organ transplant. You do not have to worry about an elderly person getting your organs when the youngest and healthiest patients are the only ones thought of for transplants. Hope this helped :)

In many states all you have to do is check that box on your driver's license and that will do the trick. They ask you if you wish to be an organ donor when you renew your license.
Always make sure your family understands your wishes, however. If you were to die in an accident and your wishes aren't clear then there could be some unnecessary heartbreak when someone wants to bury you "whole". Heaven knows we need the organs down here...don't take them with you.

The Transplant Alliance in your area will determine who is the best candidate for your organs, the organs go to the sickest people who are seen to have the best possibility for a good outcome with the organs available. You won't have any choice in the matter, sorry.

In our state, you check off organ donor on the renewal for your driver's license.

If you have a large teaching hospital or university, you can inquire there, too.
