Everyone now a days seems to have become an expert on islam, and also seem to have become an experts on women's rights.
yet at the same time those critics don't know the first thing about islam and don't know the first thing about women's rights.
A little earlier someone asked:
Is there P ussy in heaven?
This as you probably know is refering to women.
This is so degrading and disgusting, refering to women in such a manner, as if they are not human beings, as if they are just an object to be used as a piece of meat, not even a human being.
So now tell me who is oppressed; women through the islamic faith or women through western faith.
I encourage you to watch this regardless of your faith, escpecially the 2nd video
Women in islam (1 out of 3):

I'm a muslim woman-so here's my bash at your question. I don't mean to offend anyone with my answer....
Are women oppressed in Islam-No. Are they oppressed by men and cultures that won't allow women their rights-Hell Yes!
Islam gives women rights-e.g. voting. Some muslim countries (ruled by men....) have taken that right away from women.
The Burka-covering up. This is much debated amongst muslim women. Some say you can show your hands and face some say you can't. I personally feel the ones who are forcing their belief that one MUST wear it are playing mind/control games with women.
Islam has given women the right to marry a man she wants to marry-what do men in most muslim families do? Take that right away from them. Islam doesn't preech you must go back to your mother land and marry from their-that is culture.
Islam gives women human rights-these narrow minded dumbasses who hit their wive are not men, what are they? Certainly not human.
Woman can and do get an education-again its allowed-not everything is forbidden. Okay, yeah the obvious are (sex out of wedlock) but many other religions have that rule too. And that rule is for both sexes. As for capital punishment-that again is across other religions too.
As for oppression in the context of work-one of the Prophets wives was a business woman.
You'll find many branches of islam-and you'll find just as many beliefs/rules etc to go with them.
Oppression is something that comes around to control-if evil, nasty pieces of work who believe they know "islam" and go around controlling others, creating hatred etc etc etc would read a basis book on islam they'd know they were barking up the wrong tree for God knows how long.
That's my say anyway.

Wow! You watched a speech on YouTube! You MUST be an authority on how Islam treats women! All I managed to do was live in Saudi Arabia for two years, so I won't pretend to know as much as you. However, I do know this: Women weren't allowed to drive. If two cars had an accident, and one of the cars contained a woman and the other didn't, the car with the woman was automatically at fault. The markets were patrolled by old men carrying large sticks. The sticks were used to beat women who offended Allah by, for example, wearing a dress that didn't cover their ankles.
But, hey, if you saw something on YouTube, you must know more about it than I.

dear,
as a member of the Christian minority living in the Middle East, I have many Muslim friends of both genders and i can say for a fact that they are not oppressed. some people can't tell the difference between Arab traditions and Muslim religion.
Just like a lot of ignorant Muslims can't tell the difference between Western lifestyles and Christian faith.
if you really believe in God you'll let him sort things out don't you think and let's leave the judgment to him and just try to live in peace.
i didn't see the videos you listed because this kind of stuff ignites hate between people who have been coexisting in peace and Harmony (at least here in Jordan) for centuries.

Not everywhere.
We all know the stories of the Burka's in Afghanistan.
I met a girl named Tina in one of my classes some time back who had married (and divorced) a man living in Bahrain. She lived there a few years and then came back.
Her experience seemed to be mundane. No regrets, no oppression, no abuse.

I think in a way women are more respected in Islam, they are not oogled as sex objects. They don't have to deal with drunk husbands scince Musilums do not drink. I am a man though, so I can not speak for women.

No, they are not degraded. They do not have to wear the veil if they dont want to even. Allah Swt commanded it in the Quran only the muslimeen do that. Also, they have all the rights and freedoms given to them by Quran. Alhamdallahi rabbil Alameen.
