I have come to the conclusion that almost everything I do is illegal. I do know that if you take your car through inspection and the horn does not they will fail you. But in common, day-to-day driving, who is to know if it works or not. It is a good idea to lay on it once in a while to test it out; you never know when an elderly pedestrian will not be moving across the road fast enough in front of you. Times like that you really need a working horn.

I think its a bit hard saying "illegal" A horn is a requirement for your car to pass an MOT, the VT20 issued is a legal document, so your car is allowed to drive on the roads within the UK.
A ve-rec form could be issued by a police officer, which would mean that you would have to have the fault repaired and then an MOT tester would check that the repair had been fixed, the tester would sign and stamp the ve-rec form and you would send the form to the address on the ve-rec.
Hope this helps

I don't think so. It just wouldn't be very safe for you to drive without it. When someone is not looking where their going and pulls in your lane you need the horn to let them know. There are many other reasons to use your horn. So I would get if fixed as soon as possible if you drive any amount of time.

NO its not 'illegal' but its against the Law (Road Traffic Act) to drive or knowingly drive a motor vehicle on the public highway if the horn is not working.

Illegal is defined as a sick bird (Ill Eagle) you can laugh tommorow when you have time

no it isnt if you have a state inspection.if it doesnt blow then you will not get a pass on the inspection.that would be illegal to drive, making the cause of it illegal.cops are not gonna pull you over just for an inoperable horn, lol.so you would be ok until time for inspection.

In all honesty, yes. Your horn is a required safety device. According to the national laws, the quote is "must be in working order if so equipped". But Honestly, How often is a cop going to say "honk your horn" when he pulls you over?

In some countries like the U.S. and the U.K. it is illegal. However, the US has the famous "expost facto," rule which basically states if your car was made without a horn in a year before the law came into effect, it's okay. (Similar to emmisions laws in the U.S.)
