I live in Dayton, Oh. I think the dogs should go to a Pitt Bull rescue, if there is one and the dog is not vicious. The ones that are vicious should be put to sleep, but the others should not be killed because stupid people were abusing them. I think they would be best with someone who enjoys and understands the breed. I do not know a lot about the breed, because I have never owned or wanted one. I have met very friendly pitts, and one of them was rescued from a fighting ring. The fighters were going to shot her in the head, because they could not get her to fight. My friend found out, and went and got her. They made her pay 200 dollars for a dog they were going to shot. It is all about the money for fighters they do not care for their dogs at all. They even found a rape rack at that place. Where a female dog would be tied down so that should could not get away from the males. It is truely disgusting. I just don't think anything else bad should happen to these dogs if they are not vicious. They should be able to have a full and happy life if they can. They did not ask to be treated that way, and it is sad that ultimately they will probably be killed over the abuse they already suffered. They will have to pay for being abused. I just don't think that is right.

1) Certain breeds in the category 'pit bull' were selectively bred for dog aggression. It's simply encouraging their prey drive to kick in and giving them a good feeling about it. Not to mention the access to illegal substances which some people in the fighting world most likely use on their dogs. So all in all it's not technically forcing them, it's encouraging the trait through genetics and 'conditioning'. ANY breed or mix of breeds can be used in fighting, 'pit bulls' are just commonly used and get the worst of the reputation for it. 2) I have seen others I like better. It's decent and may actually reach some although I doubt it. Most people involved in that style of life don't care about dogs and couldn't care less how cute they are. Until Dog fighting becomes a crime that has serious consequences idiots will continue to participate. 3) I believe in stricter enforcement of laws already in place as well as requiring a license/inspections to breed some of the bully breeds. I support OSL NOT BSL! 4) It's called a spring-pole and is basically tug-o-war without someone's shoulder being dislocated. I have one in my yard for my dogs. My neighbor and I both use it (it's on the property line) and neither of our dogs have dog aggression or can be classified as vicious (My male is fear-aggressive and has made progress in leaps and bounds. A stranger petted him the other day and he actually seemed to enjoy it.) Tug-o-war is a debate for many people. It does not encourage aggression on it's own however some people consider it an 'off-limits' activity for their dogs. There is nothing you can do unless the dog is allowed to run at large, shows aggression towards you while unsecured or actually goes after someone.

I agree 100% with redmom. These dogs should not be punished because some criminals decided to try to use them for dogfighting. Each dog needs to be temperament tested by an independent behaviorist and the ones that are not vicious need to be made eligible for adoption. I highly doubt that all 72 dogs are vicious, and I believe a dog should NOT be discriminated against because it looks like a pitbull. Additionally, I doubt that all 72 dogs are pitbulls anyways. First pitbull is not a recognized breed by the AKC. Second, most people, including animal care workers, cannot determine the difference between a pit bull and a pit bull looking dog anyway.

Its a shame! According to the ORC it is illegal to transfer any pit for any reason into, within or to some where outside Ohio. So they are going to destroy them. I believe it is common practice in Ohio (not sure if this is law or not) to destroy the Pitt when they pick it up unless it has tags in which case they are going to nail the owner. I, just yesterday, was looking at the ORC (section 955) regarding kennel license to see how many dogs are permitted without a license. They have a section on vicious dogs. They name the Pitt specifically, I do know there are specific laws pertaining to the Pitt in Ohio, however I can not find them. Maybe it is more specific to the city you live in. In Massillon they have to wear a bright orange collar so that others will be able to identify a Pitt when they see it.

The Pit Bulls should reviewed by an animal behavioral specialist to see if any of them are adoptable. Those that aren't will end up being put to sleep.
Then the bastards that bred and trained them to fight should be put to sleep. But realistically, they should be charged and sent to prison. We'll see if there is any judicial backbone in Dayton, OH regarding this issue.

Stupid cities all over the county have banned pits. Many good dogs have been put down as a result. That sucks.
They should evaluate each dog on it's own personality and allow the good ones to be put up for adoption. Wantonly destroying all be a moral travesty

I hope the ones that are not vicious are placed in good, loving homes. More than likely the ones that have scars from fighting will probably be euthanized. These five guys ruined a LOT of dog's lives!!! That is a lot of dogs between five people. I hope they have to pay dearly for what they've done!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, put them all down. It is too dangerous to try to adopt them out. Even the dogs that may not have fought yet, have it in their genes. I'm sure this is what will be done. I'm against euthanization normally but pits that were bred to fight are an exception!

sadly they have had the smell and taste of blood must be put down they would never be able to adjust to family life . Something would remind them to fight and they would be a threat to a family or an owner . They will most likely be put down . I mean in reality it is probably the best thing for them . good luck .

They will need to evaluate the temperments of each dog. Unfortunately, most dogs trained for fighting do not make the transition to regular life well. I imagine most of the fighting dogs will be humanely euthanized. Hopefully, the owners will be prosecuted to the fullest.
