Catholics in US. Is your first communion celebrated in a big way?

Do the boys get dressed in suits and the girls in white gowns like in UK?

Yes we do, and we celebrate at a big mass with all our classmates and have a big family party afterwards. Although I celebrated mine alone because I was switching parishes at the time.

Pretty much, yeah. It's a huge affair with a mass and a party afterwards. Dress nicely. I had a white gown, a veil, and the ceremonial robe over that.
