As others have said, PrintMaster and PrintShop Deluxe are excellent choices.
I have both. They're very easy to use and you can modify anything - personalize them to your heart's content. You can choose templates given, or start with any size blank document/card/whatever and implant any kind of lettering and/or graphic - unlimited possibilities. You can even import your own pictures/graphics other than what is supplied by the software itself.

I also have PrintExplosion; here again, a goodly amount of graphics, templates, eTc., to choose from, and easy to use as the other two.

Okay, now you have three to choose from. If price is the biggest consideration, I believe you'll be happy with any of the three. PrintMaster has templates for Resumes and Newsletters, too. Besides invitations and postcards, the three programs have templates for Flyers, Certificates, even doorhangers; and I've made Bookmarks. You'll have FuN with them!

Michaels and Target have beautiful DIY printable invitations. If you purchase from Michaels, they usually have a coupon in the Sunday newspaper or you can register on-line for a coupon. I believe the newspaper has a 40% coupon off regular price items and online is 20%. Some bridal magazines have the 20% off coupon as well.

Print Artist, Print Master, Print Shop Deluxe ....ect.

Most have tons of clip art, layouts and designs for all sorts of cards, awards, scrapbooking and whatnot.

I got Print Artist at Costco for a great price compared to an electronics store.

OpenOffice is free and available for a variety of operating systems. IMHO it is better than Microsoft Office.

I have a less expensive version of PrintMaster. It does everything that I want to to do. I have made great cards, invites, letterhead and calling cards with it.
