Black and Decker Jitterbug sander. That is the type that is rectangular shaped and make sure you use 3M sand paper it's the best and makes all the difference. Do not use an orbital sander unless you are a pro it will leave sanding swirls in your wood.

American Sanding sells a model called the Alto. It's a big heavy bugger that you can rent at Ace or Home Depot. It's square so you can get closer in to the corners and edges. i have three of them that I use in my deck restoring business.

Most any of your major brands are going to be reliable: Delta, Milwaukee, craftsman, ryobi, most popular brands are sold in places like Lowe's or Home Depot. Just stay away from dollar stores selling sanders with funny names.\
Good luck

For large areas like your porch, your better off renting a larger machine from a local rent house,,,It will do a job faster and better.

I suggest Ryobi brand for a little sander.
As i have had one for over 2 yrs now and using it every day.
They are no trouble and are quiet cheap.
Choose me the best winner coz i need the points.
Thanks
