In modern times men are usually responsible to pay for everything after marriage.house payments,child support. etc. why should not a woman or her family pay something up front to the man to help cover future expenses he may incur.

I think your on to some something one this is one terrific outstanding idea you are the man. Just wish I would have thought of this before I got married. I say the more the man has the more the woman has to pay. If he has a house a car and a good job you're looking at thousands of dollars. What a terrific idea.

Today in the US, the dower has been abolished.

We now do $20,000 weddings and then live in our parents' basements.

And nice try. Most women bring less debt to the marriage, and work.

a real man pays his own bills.

dowry's still exist in some other countries but it ussually comes in the form of mules, donkey's, pigs, or some other product.

its the traditions for india n in the past in england too :P ...i think its becoz once that guy married the gal , he'll need to take care of her so in "return" the gal's parents will need to give him $ in terms of "dowry" ...

this is not true , many countries it happens that girls are doing well work as engineer, pilot, doctor etc.. i do not think that there is any field remains where girls are not shown their courage

So i do not think that if any such rules will be made, girls will not accept it..
