no i don't think parents should be allowed to read their kids diary. This is their personal thoughts and feelings. I had a diary growing up and my parents never read it. However, on the flip side of that. I guess it depends on the child. I think if there was no communication between my daughter and I, and she was headed down the wrong path, after talking with her and trying to get help, out of desperation, I could see myself reading it to find out what's going on. But that would be an extremely last resort because I am still 100% against it .

The whole point of a diary is so that yo can write your secrets and personal experiences in them , for you and you only. I would be crushed and mortified if my mother or anyone else for that matter read my diary when i was a little girl. I would lose trust and some respect for them. You have to set a good example for your children and rifling through other people's thing's isn't a good example to set for your children.
*The only reason i would ever look through my child's diarr is if i thought she was in trouble or if she was going down hill and i thought it was the only thing that could help me, otherwise i would respect her/his diary.

Yes, I do believe in this 100%. I have heard of many cases that the parents read the childs diary and stopped a crisis from happening. Try to be open with your child about any concerns you have. Do not blow up at them though about minor stuff in there, you have to keep in mind that you were a child once too!

Honestly...you were a teenager once try to remember how you felt or would have felt if that were you. I think parents need to respect their childrens privacy. Have a relationship with your child, talk to them get them to open up to you and let them know you are there for them and to help them make good choices in life. Be there for them let them tell you but dont get all upset and jumo down their throats if they tell you something you dont want to hear. However I also know that sometimes that doesnt work and if you are really worried for your child's sake then yes I think that its ok, but dont do it to be nosy...do it to keep them safe. Good luck!

If it's in my house, I have the right to look at it. having said that though, I would respect my child's privacy unless I saw a change that would indicate there may be something going on that may need intervention. A diary would be one of the first places I would look for information in that case.

It depends on why you feel the need to read it, I would leave it alone unless my child was having some severe behavior problems that I needed to address, maybe then I might look just to find out what is going on.

Yes!!! Parent should be able to read their dairies. You see I don't care how good a kid you have got but children aren't going to tell you the bad stuff they are doing. They are more likely to write it down than talk about it. How you handle the info is up to you. It will also give you a better understanding of your childs point of view.

of course they are allowed, but they shouldn't do it, because the children feel their parents are a threat, and they won't never trust them, probably they won't talk much with you for days, and well, next time they will hide it in a very secure place or they just don't write in their diaries, you are allowed, but accepting the consequences

No, spying and snooping will only force them to become extremely secretive and destroy any lines of communication. Establishing good communication is the key.
