Crunches - but only for one group of muscles. You want to make sure you hit all the muscles in your core - just doing situps or crunches won't get the sides or the lower abs. There are a number of videos that target the abs - you may want to check one of these out to get an idea of the other exercises you should be doing.

Also... if you have a nice layer of fat over your abs, you will never see a 6 pack, regardless of whether you do sit-ups or crunches. Don't overlook the importance of cardio to burn fat.

Crunches. There is less strain on the shoulders/neck/back. And crunches target the abs more than sit ups do. Now if only I would do them... Peace!

PROPER situps are more effective....most people compensate by using their hip flexors though and so the situp becomes less effective compared to the crunch for your average person

sit-ups are virtually useless they mainly activate the hip flexors and not the abdominals...
