It's oil, of course, according to Flatt & Scruggs in the Beverly Hillbillies theme song. But it does remind me of the time that Lex Luthor spray-painted Kryptonite with black Rustoleum to look like charcoal briquettes and put it in my outside grille. What a jerk!

i have two answers choose one of them..
black gold is a kind of gold used as a coating in jewelry to make the ornament a rigid and shining one...kind of electro plating like method involved
Then another refers to the petroleum , or roughly natural state of it (crude oil) it could be made available in many forms of use such as gold is used as many kind of ornaments , similarly oil gives that much forms
