First of all, this should be in religion and spirituality. Have you actually read the Bible? Being in the military, or not, has absolutely nothing to do with going to hell or not. It has to do with your spirit and whether or not you are a believer. I don't want to preach so I'm trying to make this short. In the Old Testament of the Bible, God told his people to totally wipe out other nations. King David, "a man after God's own heart", was a great king and warrior who did just that. (He did what God told him to, called obedience.) I hope this clears up your confusion about hell and the military.

Depends on What you believe in... Jesus was asked about soldiers and their chance of going to heaven.... you can look up his great answer for yourself, I would not do it justice. Islam has a Place too for Soldiers as does Judism. In My religion Soldiers are regarded Higher than any other group. We (soldiers) that die in Battle are Allowed into the Great Hall (called Val Halla) of heaven. Even the US Army has a Plaque welcoming the US Soldiers Into Val Halla. The US Services support the President in his commands. Even OIL is a noble cause, Most wars were fought for Land or water or Minerals anyway, that is the way it has always been. Even Religious wars were really about Land Or Riches.

Killing in war is not considered a sin unless it is outright murder. The correct translation of the commandment is "Thou shalt not murder". The Bible does condone war and it does condone killing in war. After all, if no one is killed in a war then a war really does not exist. The purpose of war is to kill people and conquer real estate and subdue the civilian population. Soldiers performing their duties do not automatically go to hell if they are killed in combat. The question that you have asked is a difficult one to answer, even from a pure Biblical sense. Paul says that there is no greater love than for a man to give his life for his friends. Since God is love we must ask the question: If a soldier or marine throws himself upon a grenade and dies to save his friends, does he go to heaven? It would seem that he would, even though he might not be a believer in Christ. Jesus says that he is the way, the truth and the life, and that no one goes to the Father except by him. Does the hero have to be a Christian to go to heaven? I honestly do not know, and as a Veteran myself I would be reluctant to condemn any soldier that gave his life for his country.

Exodus 20:13 (New International Version)
13 "You shall not murder.

murder = 1 : the crime of unlawfully killing a person especially with malice aforethought

are they killing people at random...like murder or are they seeking criminals and defending themselves on the field...i don't see how you can still think this war is for oil...or it just Bushes war...Islamic terrorist want nothing but to wipe America off the face of the earth...and this war in Iraq brought those people to us in Iraq rather than using their limited resources on planning another 9/11...

i think they do. Although they are just doing their job, it's still killing another person, and God made people for a reason and it's definitely not to start a war. My sister read the book "Dante's Inferno" or something like that, and said that if you are a soldier and you die, you immediately go to hell and you will be drowned in blood and the amount of blood depends on how many people you have killed. Not sure if this is true or or if Dante's experiences are real but it's just a scary thought. My sister also told me that fortune telling is a sin, according to the book, but who knows?

It is a sin to murder. You need to read you Bible more before you start quoting it.

I hope not. I was a soldier for 10 years and had this discussion. We decided no. Even the pastoral representatives agree that we are not damned for doing our job.

It's actually, "Thou shalt not murder" which is completely different.

The Bible also says that there is a time for every season. A time for war and a time for peace.

Soldiers, who have been in war, have seen Hell and been there. We're going to Heaven after this...
