When the weather is interesting like it is today I occasionally try to view it via one of several webcams that claim to exist along our coast.

The experience is invariably a waste of time. About half the links do not even take you anywhere. Then the ones you do find only contain static images that maybe replenish every minute or so.

My prize for the most disappointing one must go to the BBC, who have one looking at Brighton seafront which updates every TEN minutes!

Then you see one that claims to be 'live', but it is the same old lie - updating only every minute or so, and even then only if you sit there pressing the refresh key.

This situation is not good enough. The technology to put actual live footage on the web is cheap and everywhere.

yeah .. well that's not surprising .. the Health & Safety guys now say no-one is allowed to climb a ladder of more then 3 steps, so what chance anything like a web cam will EVER be fixed ???

Stick to the ones outside UK - they seem to work just fine.

Times Square (New York) has a very good webcam (earthcam) constant streaming video and it moves every minute or so to give different views of Times Square. http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/?cam=streaming&cam_type=streaming
Check out earthcam and you will find many streaming video webcams :-)
