The writing, esp the caligraphy, is what first attracted me to Arabic. Then I travelled to the region and loved it -- the food, the people, the scenery, the history. The language itself is so complex, and then all the regional variations in the different countries intrigues me more. I can also see Arabic roots or influence in other languages like English, Spanish, Swahili.

These days, Arabs are misunderstood so I think having more non-Arabic people studying the language/culture, travelling to the region, etc., will help break down some of the misunderstanding

The language is kinda interesting though I'm having a hard time with the accent. I want to learn more... It's also a bit difficult for me cause I don't have much Arabic friends and I only go to the Middle East like twice a year... :)
