My EX and I took a break from the relationship; after 3 months apart I decided to commit. She apparently did not get my message and I interpreted the silence as a “no go”. Out of the blue she contacts me to tell me she is engaged to a guy she has been dating for 12 weeks. Why? We would never cross paths anyway, it was a long-distance relationship. When she learned about my commitment message she got angry, asked a lot of questions, told me she was confused but we said good-bye. I asked her why she felt the need to contact me – she couldn’t or wouldn’t answer my question, even when pressed, except to say “I don’t know”. What do you think – has she really moved on? Why did she contact me?

If you have moved on, then maybe there is no need for you to ask her those questions. Make sure that she is really enganged or telling the truth. If she is really enganged, maybe she just wants you to envy her or feel that you're a looser after breaking with her. But, as you said, you had a long distance relationship, I can sense that she has not moved on. She still has some feelings for you, she's letting you know that she is engaged so that if you still have feelings for her, you still have time to fight for her and continue your relationship with her. Much better to treat her as a friend, and congratulate her, so she'll feel that you have moved on, and soon she'll accept the fact and have to move on also with her life.

Sounds like that she is playing mind games with you. Tell her that you are happy if shes happy, but maybe mention that you don't need to know what is going on in her life anymore, wish her luck and tell her no more contact as you have both moved on.

She has moved on if she has told you she is engaged to be married to someone else.Like the saying goes you snooze you lose.
