Does your body really slow down to conserve energy? Have any of you ever been on such a calorie restricted diet? Did it work for you?

I did the exact same thing you are talking about, and I very much advise against it.

I was consuming less and less calories each day, hoping it would make me lose weight faster. I had gotten around 600-8-- calories each day, and believe me.. I felt so incredibly drained and exhausted by the end of the day. I started having horrible headaches, and had basically no energy at all. It was awful.

Sure, you'll lose weight.. at first.. but after the first week or so, your body is going to start saving those calories, and your weight will be at a stand still.

What you need to do is just eat healthy and get plenty of exercise.

Don't starve yourself. Not only will it put a major hault to your weight loss program.. but you could do some serious damage to your body. It's not worth it.

u will lose weight of course, for some time, then your body will ajust to that amount of energy and starts consume less energy. u will stop losing weight and plus u will be all the time tired and having colds very often cos your immune system will not function well. u will screw your metabolism and when u won't be able to stay on this low calorie diet anymore u will gain so much weight i am even afraid to tell u, cos your body will get used to consuming very little energy. i have tried dieting when i was younger, it didn't work, it took me many years to get my metabolism back to normal. even now i have to eat less food than normal people not to get fat and exercise very hard

Reading a book will take you hours but the information on a post, taking minutes to read, is not enough. The webpage below has just enough to know what you need to know. Links page has gov. No. And I never would. 640 calories a day is not a diet - it is a sign of an eating disorder. You will develop severe vitamin and mineral deficencies and even your brain capacity and memory will suffer. Just don't do it.

The trick about calories is how much you consume and how much you use. You have to find out the calories you use in a day and subtract from those you consume. That is how many calories you store in your body.
