i must say, i totally agree with you!! i asked a question earlier (not about breeding, but about dogs) asking if it is possible for a dog to be "desexed" and still have pups and if anyone knew anything about it! i KNOW what the operation entitles, but i knew of a dog who went in to be "desexed", came out with a scar on its belly, yet had PUPPIES a year later!! i got slammed for this one and felt like SUCH an idiot, when all i really wanted were some opinions etc. i think some people are just WAY too judgemental and rude on here...

i do have to say though, and i am not judging at all, but maybe it was a mistype or something, but ur question says "amatuer dog breeders" and then u state ur a "respectable dog breeder with knowledge"... and also, u say knowledge, but then u have asked a question about how to change regestration etc. if u had knowledge, wouldnt u know what? pls, dont think i am being rude at all, because im really not trying to be, i just thought if i pointed this out then maybe u would get some amswers for urself... cos u contradict urself a little, so people may see this. =)

EDIT: it could be helpful if u mentioned that (in ur question) because maybe thats why ur getting answers u dont like....

I think if you are coming to YA for serious answers to anything you are a fool. There are only a few on YA that know what they are talking about when it comes to dogs, the rest are a bunch of idiots spewing out all their so called knowledge on dogs and breeding. If the people who claim that they want to become professional breeders were serious they would go to were the knowledge is at. They would learn from others who have spent years learning how to breed. They would NOT ask on YA! If you were a respectable breeder as you claim then I think you would understand why the answers are given in such a hostile way. I mean after you have put so many years into learning why would you think it is okay or want to tell anybody how to breed their lab with their poodle. Maybe you think we have a shortage of mutts that needs to be filled or maybe............

The reason people criticize you for asking questions about breeding is because most of the questions that are asked on this site are either common knowledge, things that even an amatur breeder could read in a book, and often just stupidly simple.

You may be a respectable breeder, and there are many out there, but there also way too many backyard breeders, and most people don't want to add to their pride or help those who are breeding dogs that have hip, eye, etc problems.

Because the people asking questions about breeding are asking others as clueless about it as they are. Read a book, get to know other breeders. This is not the place to learn about such things, almost all the people here know little or nothing about these topics, but will still answer your questions.

SHOULDN'T they have learned about breeding/whelping BEFORE they did it?

Natalie - You are not a breeder, you are just having puppies, and mutts at that. You are a good example of why people should learn first and breed later. It is common knowledge that dysplasia is genetic, and it can be tested for. Now, because you couldn't wait until you knew what you were doing, you may have bred dogs that will be crippled later in their lives. Is that fair to the puppies OR the puppies owners? You need to be upfront to anyone who takes a puppy, about the possible future health problems in your puppies.

People should not judge but inform and if you do not know the answer do not put in your 2 cents. Please if anyone out there is thinking about breeding go to your local book store and get books on the breed and breeding. The more info you have the better. Find a breeder that will share info with you. Not all dogs are show quality even if their parents are but they still make great pets!!

BE AN INFORMED BREEDER!!

I find it very annoying that some people think they know everything and think they are better than everybody else...I have 3 Peek-A-Poo's that I breed...I do this because I love the breed..I have a very long contract that buyers have to agree with before my puppy goes to them...One stipulation is "If for any reason they ever decide their puppy is not right for them NO MATTER the reason or age....I take the puppy back no questions asked... have the right to breed as much as you have the right to breed...I don't know what makes some of you ppl out there think that you are better than anyone else who wants to breed...So if someone could answer my question i would appreciate that..But let me say this...I do agree that if you decide you would like to breed DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST...dont do it for money...

EVERYONE WHO BREEDS DOES START SOMEWHERE AND THEY ARE ALL NOVICE BREEDERS AT SOME TIME EVEN THE MOST RESPECTED CHAMPION BREEDING DOG BREEDER STARTED SOMEWHERE.
HOWEVER, IT IS FRUSTRATING TO EVERYONE BREEDER OR NOT WHEN SOMEBODY WHO HAS A CROSS-BRED DOG BREEDS THAT DOG TO ANOTHER CROSS-BRED DOG AND SO ON - THIS IS BECAUSE EXPERIENCED BREEDERS BREED THEIR DOGS TO PREVENT COMMON AILMENTS AND TO IMPROVE THE BLOODLINE IN THE FUTURE GENERATIONS OF THE BREED. CROSSBRED DOGS HOLD TWICE AS MANY AILMENTS THAN THE PUREBRED DOGS AS THEY HAVE BOTH THE AILMENTS IN THEIR BLOODLINE. IT DOES NOT BENEFIT THE DOGS AT ALL THAT HAVE BEEN BRED NOR THE PUPPY'S - SO WHAT IS THE POINT OTHER THAN TO HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF BREEDING PUPPIES OR FOR MONEY?
HOWEVER FIRST TIME BREEDERS WHO RESEARCH THE BREED BEFORE BUYING A PUPPY, THEN TALK TO THEIR BREEDER ABOUT BREEDING THEMSELVES WILL BE SOLD A DOG FOR THAT PURPOSE WHO WILL IMPROVE THE 'LINES' IN THE FUTURE. THE BREEDER MAY ALSO RECOMMEND USING ONE OF THEIR STUD DOGS WHICH IS A VERY GOOD WAY OF STARTING OFF AS THEY WILL TALK YOU THROUGH EACH STEP OF THE WAY AND WILL PROVIDE ADVICE THROUGHOUT, THEY WILL ALSO ONLY USE A STUD DOG THAT IS SUITABLE FOR BREEDING AND IS NOT DIRECTLY RELATED. THIS IS THE BEST WAY FOR ANYBODY TO START OFF. (AS IF A FEMALE PULLS AWAY DURING MATING THE MALE MAY END UP SERIOUSLY WOUNDED, AN EXPERIENCED DOG WOULD HELP PREVENT THIS.) HAVING PUPPIES IS A 24HOUR JOB FOR YOU AS WELL AS THE MUM.

NOBODY SHOULD BE SLATED FOR ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT BREEDING HOWEVER YOU MUST REMEMBER THAT YOU SHOULD BREED TO IMPROVE THE BLOODLINES ETC NOT FOR MONEY OR JUST TO HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF BREEDING PUPPIES AS THIS IS JUST SELFISH - SURELY YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THAT?

YES IT IS ANNOYING THAT PEOPLE WITH NO IDEA ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT BREEDING, ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE NO IDEA, AND DON'T UNDERSTAND ABOUT KC REGISTRATION PAPERS, AND WANT TO CHANGE DETAILS, AND ASK HOW, DON'T UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE MATING SEASON, WHICH DAY IS BEST ETC, BUT THEY STILL CALL THEMSELVES RESPECTABLE BREEDERS!!!

TO MANY PEOPLE ARE BREEDING IN THE UK FOR THE WRONG REASON, MONEY IS NOT EVERYTHING, THINK WHAT YOU ARE PUTTING THE DOG THROUGH. AND ESPECIALLY IF SHE IS A CROSS AND YOU ARE MATING HER WITH A CROSS. THERE IS NO NEED, YOUR NOT KEEPING THE BREED LINE GOING, YOU DONT NO WHAT YOU ARE DOING WHEN IT COMES TO TEMPERMENTS ETC.

YES THERE ARE GOOD BREEDERS OUT THERE WITH KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE WHO WILL HELP ON THIS SITE WHICH IS GOOD, BUT THOSE WHO ASK HOWS ITS DONE, AND WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, BECAUSE SHE HAS STARTED, DONT UNDERSTAND, AND HAVE LEFT IT A BIT LATE. THEY SHOULD BE WITH HERE NOT SITTING AT A COMPUTER!

IF YOU WANT TO BREED YOU NEED TO DO A LOT OF RESEARCH BEFORE HAND AND TALK TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE FIRST, EVEN CONTACT THE PERSON YOU GOT HER FROM.

What is annoying is all the people that use YA! as their source of breeding/whelping/puppy rearing/and medical information. WAAAYYYYY before YA! there were good breeders. Where did they get their wealth of knowledge??????????? Well, the people asking questions HERE should find that out and go THERE!!!!!!!
