A question about the Quran?

A Muslim once told me that the Quran cannot lawully be translated.

He told me that in order to become a Muslim, the believer must be a able to read Arabic (or learn it) so he/she can read the Quran in it's orginal language.

He also said it was against the doctrine of the religion to translate the Quran into any language because doing so would/may/might corrupt the meaning.

Is this untrue? Yes or no?

I am Christian. I do not believe in the idea of salvation through works. This is in response to the poster who said I could earn brownie points for attempting to read the Quran in it's original language.

LIE!!! Big lie. You can read the translation of the meaning of the QUran in any language; however (boviously) you will not get the exact same understanding as the original language. The essence is more important though so don't worry. I've been Muslim all my life and don't speak Arabic (it would be beneficial though). Peace.

He is talking rubbish! Quran has been and is being translated into many languages and there is nothing wrong with that. The translation remain to be translation of the Quran and nothing more nor less.

The Quran was originally written by Prophet Muhammad under the guidance of an angel. The Quran originally serves no specific purpose other than for the reader to recite the verses in Arabic. The verses, when read, will produce some sort of a "sound" (I don't know how to put it) that inspire the reader and enter a mental state of spirituality.

Of course the Quran can and is translated in many languages for non-Arabs to be able to read it. But maybe what the Muslim person is trying to tell you is that the Arabic language is a very rich one and it is sometimes very difficult to find proper translations to certain words so the perfect meaning will not reach you as intended. worship The Migthy God,he who created this universe,not any
other being and to believe in the last day.
Arabs who know Arabic,have more responsibilities,because they
can read Quran,they know meanings of Quran,they know
properties of their language better than others,
So many who doesn't know the way of thinking of arabs and
muslims,get an error when they listen to them talking about Islam
,that is due to differnces in collecting meanings in differnet
languages,and making words afterward,
and because they think-as other nation members- think that
anything they belive,others also belive in,no need to argue about
see the dominants now,how they think about their motives,goals!
even poetry ,can not be translated (CORRECTLY),due to
linguastic properties,expressions phonitics classification of
meanings,have this example(Spring in english:season,metal
object used in mechanics,fountain,,,,etc
while in Arabic,it makes a new student confused,the spring as
season is called(one quarter of year),the spring of water is called
(eye : of water,or some close meaning in english:the thing that
goes up from ground to eyes),,and so,,you can find thousands
of example that makes translating such thing ,keeping all
probabilities of meanings,and shades ,and even senses(color
touch,sound,calling other words and meanings) That will be sort
of impossible in any language!
actualy ,there are so many translations of Quran,So why you
listen to him,and don't believe your eyes?!

it may be true he believed that but the quran can not be translated but it has been and when you point out it says to kill your brother if he leaves islam they will claim it is a misstranslation. I can not believe the translations are that far out the quran is full of hate.

I wouldnt be surprised - in medieval times people were burnt to death at the stake by catholic priests for translating the bible in to english. They didnt want people to have a direct line to god since they felt it would undermine the church.

You must memorize it, in arabic. But dont bother, its poorly written trash.
