If you find the Bible difficult to obey, don't obey it. What is the point of dedicating your life to a book which tells of lies? It would be like me dedicating my life to worshipping Morpheus. It isn't real.

I'm an atheist, I've been one since I was 16 (almost 23 now), but up until 16 I always read the bible, and I absolutely never read anything like that. Which type of the bible are you reading? I know there are about 2983874 different versions of the Bible nowadays, but there are also on-line Bibles in which you can choose the translation (including KJV, which is what alot of churches stick to).
Now, physically it would certainly be gross, and I could never bring myself to... ya know. That would just be a nightmare, except it would be happening in real life.
But man, the whole "sprinkling the blood of a dead bird" throughout your house right after you cleaned it is certainly not what you want to do. If you do that, I can promise you, you are asking for all kinds of "un-Godly" diseases. Also, that sounds alot more like Voodoo instead of Christianity. As I said, ever since I can remember, my parents made me go to church until 16 when I rebelled and hit the downward spiral (I am alot better now though... getting my degree in computer programming and network security) and during that time, I'd spend a lot of time reading the Bible, and the only unlean types of things I remember reading about was shellfish... now those were declared Biblically unclean, if I remember correctly, and I believe that if your God exists, he would really, really not want you sprinkling blood of a dead bird around your house. Please, man, think this through. Use your logic. I hope this helps you some.
P.S. If you have cats or dogs, I seriously recommend against, if just for your pets, NOT SPRINKLING BLOOD OF A DEAD BIRD AROUND YOUR HOUSE FOR THEIR SAFTEY. Those birds could have a million diseases you don't know about. Think long and hard. Think and think and think. If it still seems like a good idea after reading this then thinking the whole thing over for a while, then man, I don't mean to sound insulting. I would seriously recommend seeing a psychiatrist. Oh yeah, the killing of a bird brought up another thought. Your God if he exists, would look upon that as a sacrifice as I see it. That would not be a good thing in any way, shape, or form. According to the Bible, God sent his son, Jesus, to die for everyone's sins. One sacrifice to end all other sacrifices. Man, its surprising to me how much of this stuff I still remember; I haven't been to church in years OR read the bible in years. Anyway, here is a link to one of those on-line bibles. They have every version of the Christian bible imaginable: New International Version, King James Version, New King James Version, New American Standard Bible, New Living Translation and English Standard Version just to name a few. Here is the link: http://www.biblegateway.com/ . I hope this has helped you... seriously, I hope it helped.

When this law was written, the house was a tent. The Israelites were shepherds until the time of King David. When Saul died, the Bible says that each man returned to his "tent", assuming that that's what they all had.
What we see as ritually "unclean" in the laws seem more to be health standards. Remember that Moses was raised in an Egyptian family and highly educated (for that time). He may have had whatever medical background was available at the time.
For example, what the OT calls "leprosy" sounds a lot more like small pox, and the precautions suggested by Moses sound like quarantines for preventing the spread of the disease.

The natives in New Guinea also believe that women are unclean during that weak so they get exiled to a purpose built house for the duration. Isn't it strange that ancient superstitions spread
