I'm heading to Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam/Laos in a few months for a few months and was wondering, if you've been there before, what were some of your highlights. If you know someone who have been, what did they tell you was amazing? I haven't booked anything yet, and am willing to travel to the ends of these countries if it's worth it. What was amazing for you or them?

Cheers

been to Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. my good friend was in Cambodia for three weeks.... Cambodia can be done in a week and a half. Mainly the temples of ankor wat is the place to go and the capital, also include a trip to the killing fields just out of the capital. Only went to Bangkok and Chang Mai in Thailand. Bangkok is fantastic for shopping, check out the sex trade for interest and a laugh while u are there. In Chang Mai my partner and I went on an Elephant trek which was great though u can do this all over thailand. Vietnam i travelled north to south over three weeks though u should allow 4 weeks to see it all and u should do it all.. It really depends on what your interests are. If you want to see the cultural side or go for a big party.. Sapa is a must to see the hilltribe people, amazing views and experiences. Ha Long bay was gorgeous and you can stay on the bay over night. Hanoi is stunning and great to see the different way of life in the old quarter. Nha trang is vietnams party town. Lots of foreigners, stunning beaches, snorkling, boat cruises, para sailing, bars, booze. awesome time, eat at La Cahn restaurant, food to die for. Laos was simple and stunning. Wish i had more time there. Only stayed in the capital Vientiane which can be done very quickly, move on to Van Vieng for a tyre tube ride down the river over rapids stopping at the numerous bars along the way. Fantastic day... Scenery was stunning aswell. Heard that Lueng Prebang, the next town in was even more beautiful so make sure u head there. I wouldn't book anything other then your first night of your trip... it is very easy to get around, everyone speaks very good english and the prices can be bartered for for your accomodation if u just rock up. Have a blast

I spent some time in Vietnam and Thailand and loved it. It will no doubt be an amazing experience.

In Vietnam, I recommend that you check out Hue. It is a beautiful historical city that is fun to explore. Also, make sure you spend a couple days in Ha Long Bay. Specifically, take a boat/ferry to Cat Ba Island. Amazingly beautiful.

Also, don't be afraid to try food from the street vendors. I know that a lot of people may disagree with me about that, but some of best culinary experiences were from them. (Also a great way to save money).

Best of luck!

i found ko tao in thailand most lovely. all quiet peacefull and not as touristy as ko somui for instance.
shopping in bangkok was nice too and people keep saying that the north of thailand must be stunning.
but don't worry - don't plan too much, you will all work it out once you get there and meet a lot of people who have travelled to places!

enjoy!
