For a fancy dress competition,I'd suggest you make your child wear the accessories of the person whom he wants to grow up as,whom he consider is his idol.This would not only give your child the feel of the air of his ideal but would also inculcate confidence in him to be able to be like that person.

make him the red indian...paint the face n add feathers and wear those red and black striped minimal clothes...

well.....how about mahatma gandhi.....with all the news doing round nowadays about him, he seems to be a good choice.
but you can experiment and try making him/her ......godzilla!!
i bet no one else would be dressed up like that!
