Can somone explain the difference between +dvd and -dvd?

both are more or less the same nowadays, however dvd- is compatable with more players.

although most readers, writers and players do both

this is another classic example where manufacturers decided not to agree on a single flatform which is not mute since most players on the market reads both + & - format.
