From what i have noticed my cats tend to do it when they have just used the litter tray, or want to go out - its a burst of energy - cats are generally hunters - the seditary life style they lead sometimes isnt enough for them and it all comes out in a burst of speed - there is nothing wrong with it - just make sure they havent got any doors or furniture they can crash into though!!!!

"Mad Five Minutes"

Usually its just an exercise mechanism, if a cat feels it needs some exercise it will have a run around. Its some times set off by boredom, it can also be sign of anxioty in older cats, as they are prone to senility and forget where they are. Buy a toy (stick with a ball strung with elastic) and play with them other wise just enjoy!!

Sounds like you have the sister to my 6 month old kitty - we call her "He!! Kitty on Crack" -AKA Daisy.

She's got 2 speeds, supersonic, and dead. Nothing in between. She'll run around the house so fast, she crashes into things. We're afraid she's going to get hurt, so we've padded some things, but she pulls the padding off - only to crash into them again. I honestly believe she enjoys bouncing.

Her other speed - dead - usually happens mid stride. She'll be running around, then just stop, and fall asleep.

My suggestion, deal with it. My kitty is outside while we're at work, she comes into eat and run around, then she wants out again. We've tried playing with her, confining her... nothing helps. She's just got excess energy, and can't seem to burn it off.

It's the cat's mad moment of the day.
My cat does that ...and you'd better stay out of her way or get knocked over!
My cat likes me to chase her round the house as well.

my cat Kasey does this at least once or twice a day, especially after she uses her litter box. she runs around the corner into the living room and acts like she's gonna attack. then she generally jumps on the couch or one of the chairs and acts like nothing happened... cats are awesome! : )

cheers,
Shauna!

LOL! Seems like they get a wild hair and then go all nutz for no reason at all. Maybe it's their way of having imaginary friends to play with or they are seeing ghosts. ;-)

She's doing it to relieve tension. Try playing with her more, try some hunting and chasing games. Start off slowly and see if you can get her interested.
