Is this a case of analysis paralysis? or is it just something I will have to accept? If doing good gives my life meaning and makes me feel good is this feeding my ego? HELP!

I don't know if you are Christian, but if you are, try to read AND UNDERSTAND the real way of Christianity, help others is just a little part of your job, that is what you are suppost to do, you are doing nothing extraordinary but just what you are supposted to do.

Matthew 6:1,2,3 & 4.
6:1 Be careful not to do your "acts of righteousness" before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
6:2 "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they received their reward in full.
6:3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
6:4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you in public.

Luke 17:7,8,9 & 10.
17:7 "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ' Come along now and sit down to eat '?
17:8 Would he not rather say, ' Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink ' ?
17:9 Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?
17:10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, " We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty."
GOD BLESS YOU!

In no way. why should you stop? You are doing the right thing. This is way if people understood what you already have i.e. that helping others make you feel good about yourself, we would all be better off. Although I am not religious, I think this is one of the basic concepts and most innovative in Jesus Christ's´s philosophy.

Helping others = helping ourselves, and since the ego has to struggle with the superego (own perception of self from others point of view, I FEEL IT IS MORE A BALANCING ACT THAN OVERFEEDING YOUR EGO.

True altruism is doing good for somebody without any need/ thought of self gain. Pretty tricky. The thought energy behind your actions is what counts. Do you help others because it makes you feel good or do you feel good once you have helped others. Feeling good about helping others is cool, it must however not be your motivation. The more selfless the act the purer the energy it carries. Of course in the end what is important is that you are doing good. Don't worry about it making you feel good. Mother Teresa certainly feels joy at helping those in need.

No it's healthy. Your gaining a perspective of self worth judged on your ability or willingness to give, this is more self esteem rather than ego. Ego does nothin but take, then brags.

This is not your ego, if someone puts a very hungry and angry lion in front of you, you'll feel scared, same thing with helping others, it makes you happy. All it shows is self pride and a good heart. There's nothing wrong with that!

Dont feel guilty for feeling good about yourself when you are helpful to others, just make helping people a habit and not expect anything in return.

Only when it is the only reason why you do it. You cant help but feel good for helping people, however you need to distinguish between when you are doing it to help yourself and when you are doing it to help others.
Sometimes I pull myself up and say "no I am not going to help, its not my business, I am doing it for myself and not them". Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.
It is like people that always want to believe they are right and argue to the point of delusion. They convince themselves it is because they believe they are right and in search of the truth, the reality however is that they have insecurity problems and argue because they want to be right and the truth has nothing to do with it.
It is not healthy to argue just for the sake of arguing just as it is not healthy to help just for the sake of helping

If you do something for someone else and it makes you feel good, content yourself with that feeling... seek not the acceptance of your peers for your deeds. By attempting to justify your acts you degrade them.
