everyone is different. depending on where you get it at, it can be very relaxing. i am a tattoo artist so i have tattooed a lot of people and EVERYONE is different, even people who have gotten tattoos in the same area react different.

i have my arms tattooed, shoulder to wrist, it hurts more the lower you go down, but it's not unbearable. i have my whole upper back tattooed, shoulder to shoulder and down to my mid back and up to the back of my neck. that was the only tattoo i can honestly say kind of hurt, but it shouldn't have, i had a heavy handed artist because i also have my ribs tattooed from right under my armpit down to my hip and it only hurt in certain spots but over all wasn't bad at all. i have my legs tattooed from my knee to my ankle and that really didn't hurt at all. some spots even felt like a deep tissue massage. i also have my knuckles done which didn't hurt the first time, but hurt a little more when i got them touched up, but again, it didn't hurt enough that i really cared. i'm a thin guy so i usually tell people that if i can take it, they can take it. of course that's not nessesarily true because everyone's pain tolerance is different, and i guess mine is just high. but the point is, you'll live. it's really not that bad, and it is addictive. your body releases endorphines and adrenaline while getting tattooed so that helps with the pain, plus once it's done you probably won't even remember how bad it hurt, so you'll want more.

spots that i DON'T have tattooed but i hear are very painful is the top of the foot, and behind the knees...well, the knees too for that matter. mine starts right under the knee. but i also heard ribs hurt and mine didn't really bother me.

You should probably consider other factors besides where the least painful place will be. Like... will you still like it in 20, 40 years? Will it be in a place that could get stretched out with age/pregnancy/etc (like in your hip/abdomen area, for instance)? do you want it to be in a visible area? things like that are all important. I got my first one on my lower back & I'd heard mixed things. Some people said it hurts like crazy b/c the needle shakes & burns your spine but I found it to be nothing like this. I barely felt anything other than a slight pinch (like a 1 or 2 out of 10 on the pain scale). My 2nd tattoo is on my pelvic bone/hip area where there is also not a lot of skin and it hurt like crazy!! If I'd done this first I never would've gotten a 2nd one! Generally, the more skin/fat you have in an area (like your butt, for instance), the less it will hurt. It really depends on your own threshold for pain too. Also, if you're getting something simple & won't take long, it's not too bad. If you're going for an intricate, long, drawn-out tattoo, I'm sure it would hurt no matter where you got it. Good luck!

The more fat, the less about of pain. I have three and I had tell you that the one on my foot hurt the most! It was a small tattoo, only lasted half an hour, but it was the worst 10 mins of life! (lol)

from personal experience i'll have to say the top of the foot. but this past weekend i was at a tattoo convention and a lady had basically her whole body tattooed and she said the most painful place was the labia.

I have tattoo's all over my body, arms, legs, back...For me the one that hurt the most was on my caves... I have 2 that go right across my spine and they didn't hurt as much as the caves.(I can take a lot of pain) I have a buddy that just got his ribs done and he said that's the most pain that he has ever felt... I guess it just depends on the person

The most painful for me was my ankle, especially right over the bone, But I have heard that the rib cage area is the absolute worst place. The place that hurts the less...Elbow, believe it or not there are no nerve ending there, have someone pinch the skin of your elbow and you barely feel it.....

Shin bones, top o the feet, inner wrist, perhaps lower back. Anywhere boney, nervey or sensitive. But don't worry, it's not that painful at all really. The noise is what gets most people.

your finger tips contain the most nerve endings therefore are the most capable of feeling pain
