What a beautiful question! So it hasn't snowed in S. Africa in 22 years -

First of all - it looks so beautiful when it is snowing. You watch every outdoor surface start to glisten and then turn to pure white. It is often not that cold, and normally fairly still outside (unless it is a blinding blizzard - severely cold and windy).
Some snow, you can pick up in your hand ( it is very cold to the touch, like an ice cube) and form it into a solid ball - hence rolling it into a snowman. That is fun to do!

Or, you can lay flat on the ground and stretch out your arms, (you are dressed warmly, of course) and raise and lower them several times and then seperate your legs and bring them back straight . When you stand up and look at your impression in the snow - you have made a snow angel!

When my kids were little, they loved to go sledding! I imagine you would love it - You sit on your sled (or stand on a snow board) at the top of a hill and head down at a fast speed! sometimes you topple over and get a facefull! Very cold!

But to answer your questions - snowfights can be fun -the snow ball breaks apart when it hits you - and snow in your hair is similiar to having rain in your hair - it just has to melt on your hair first :)

Then, there is the issue of shoveling it so you can get anywhere and learning how to drive your car in it without crashing and hurting yourself, someone else or property. That is the not so fun part of snow! I am from the Midwest and have lived here my whole life - I love the first snows and having it at Christmas - but around now (mid Jan/Feb) I am longing for spring and warm weather!
Hope this helped and BTW - it has been very mild here - so maybe you will get our snow!

I had never touched or saw snow until I came to Oregon at the age of 19. It still does not snow very often here, so when it does I just love it! We still have a little on the ground-yesterday I think it snowed about 3-4 inches here, (at one thousand feet). I have some photos in my blog of when we drove out to where we didn't even know it was snowing-towards Crater Lake, in Oregon. They had walls of snow over 20ft high lining the sides of the street!

The snow is light when it's coming down, unless it's really big flakes, then they are kind of heavy. Unlike rain, it's quiet as it falls on the rooftops, and the ground down below. You can't feel it land in your hair unless it's big drops-then all you can feel is water. It has an airy, wet feeling. When the snow first falls and you walk in it, you sink a little. After it gets packed down hard, you can slip and slide on it when you walk.
At first I'd thought it would be easy to make a snowball, but I have little hands, and everytime I'd get some snow and pack it into a snowball, it was about the size of a golfball! It can hurt to get hit with one that's packed like that, otherwise it doesn't hurt-and whereever the snowball breaks up, is where it's gonna be cold & wet afterwards. I think the snow makes everything look so crisp, and clean, even the air.

It is really white. When you step on the snow, it makes a sound a bit like the one you can hear when you walk after getting your shoes wet deep in the water. If it snows hard, you could barely see the front. It is as if you are in a fog. It gives you the feeling of being in a mist, a wonder land. If it snows lightly on the window, sometimes you can see that it's very beautiful. It's hexagon with very beautiful shapes in it. When you do a snow fight, you really want to have many snowballs ready. Cuz others will keep snowing at you. It can hurt sometimes if it has gotten like an ice. But it usually doesn't. It feels like as if you had big powder being throwed at you. When snow falls on your hair, it's fun at first. Yet, it may not get fun afterall. If you had fogotten to dry your hair. You catch cold right after that. When you touch them its very very icy cold so its always best to do snow fight and other things in the snow with your hands covered in really warm gloves.

I wish you caught a bit of an idea what its really like when it snows and,,,,,,wish you that you see snow sometime very soon.

I live in Scotland and as I look out my window the first snow of the winter is falling. It looks pretty but the roads are getting treacherous and the pavements are slippy I intended driving 45 miles to Edinburgh but am thinking of waiting till tomorrow. But thats the bad part. It can be fun playing with kids throwing snowballs, although some schools have banned this as kids have been hit with stones in the snow. Sledging with the kids is great fun sliding down the hill and usually ending up turning over before you reach the foot of the hill, lots of laughter. But I wish I was in the warm sun of South Africa today. OK lets swap lives for the winter.

I used to despise snow and the entire winter season up until last year. Its fun to have snowball fights, if you take one to the head directly it can hurt and burn. The rest of the time its just cold busts of ice hitting you from where it breaks upon impact. kinda like a misty rain only frozen and much colder. Its of course cold and you tend to get really wet after sometime in it. With the right person it can be a very beautiful and fun time though. I can still remember chasing her through the park and smashing a snowball on top of her head. She used to giggle when she ran and I was chasing her, she liked being chased and the snow made it more of a challenge to catch her as I kept stopping to make and throw another snowball at her. I suppose I will never look at snow quite the same way again really. At least not like I used to, she changed the way I see a lot of things. Hope that helps.

You poor thing truly. The most spiritual presence I have ever felt is when it has been snowing especially at night. When the snow flakes are as big as golf balls. The air around you is so pure, it feels like your in a dream in a wonderland. During the day there's nothing better than blowing up a tractor tire inter tube and getting 8 of your closest friends on it at one time and pointing it down a hill that scares the hell out of you. What a great time.

I bet it is beautiful where you live in South Africa. One of my favorite things to do in the winter is to build a snowman with my kids. Except I don't stay out as long as they do because I don't like being cold. It is alot of fun to play in the snow and then come inside to get warm and drink hot chocolate. We like to have a sled riding party once a year with a big bon fire where we cook hot dogs. The snow just sparkles as it lays on the ground and crunches below your feet. Maybe sometime you can vacation somewhere that has snow, but dress warm!

I love snow... I am from Ireland, and it doesnt snow too often here (but bizarely it did last night)...

Snow is great fun, it is cold but you dont feel it when you are running around the garden belting your sister with a snowball :)

Making snowmen, getting the day off school (cause roads too blocked up), having snow fights, making snow angels... all the joys I remember when I see snowfall!

I also love the crunch it makes under your feet as you walk :)

Visiting the snow is alot nicer than having the snow come to you. Snow fights and snow in the hair is just part of it. You have to shovel it and move it. That hurts your back. And driving in it, you need 4 wheel drive so you don't have to chain up. Not to mention, it turns to ice and you slip and fall!

Trust me your not missing anything I live in Ohio and I HATE snow!!! But to give you a summary it's cold, and wet, and if it's packed good it turns to ice, and those are the kind of snowballs that you do not want thrown at you. Snow in the hair sucks too because then your hair gets wet and then you get cold and if your like me I HATE being cold also.
