Do you fail to fall asleep because you aren't feeling well or have bad health, or do you worry about something and can't "turn it off". This might seem a little silly, but I had a real problem with insomnia because of worry. I decided that in order to divert my mind from problems. I would think of something entirely different. So, in my mind, I would make a list of something, i.e. naming all the states and their Capitols, or all my favorite songs and the artists who sings them, or all my favorite movies, or you name it. Usually, by the time I would get half-way thru my list I was sawing ZZZZZ's. Try it just for the heck of it!

Count backwards from 100 in any foreigh language you've studied for a while. Works for me, I've never gotten past about quatre-vingt-deux.

work out until you're physically exhausted. then even if you can't make your brain tired, your body will want so badly to sleep that your brain will finally have to. i guess if you're at home in the middle of the night, that's kind of hard though. but you could try it tomorrow.
