I have read some very long answers here, but none really hits the point. The first settlers were Puritans coming from Holland. But the history of the Puritans goes back more than that. Puritans appeared in England, as part of Protestantism, only that they were much more radical. They were driven out of the country and fled to Holland. When they were driven out of Holland, they went to America. As I have already said, the Puritans were very strict, so the beginnings of America were very strict, religiously speaking. And that is a very strong influence to the fact that America is predominantly a Christian country

America had it's original inhabitants the Indian tribes. The in 1492 Columbus and his boys found the place-actually he didn't he thought to his deathbed that he had found India) he was followed by a horde of others. and colonisation started. The first colonisers were what one would call today made up from religious fanatics representing the extreme left or right wing of Catholicism. And believe me when I tell you that Europe was happy to see them go. In less than 300 years that had eradicated the natives and with them their cultures and religions. That is why there are so many different denominations and churches. very few catholics and in places they are still considered anathema.
Mass immigration of non Christian groups occur after the country is occupied and run by European Christians. The Chinese for example are imported by the thousands as cheap labor to built the railway system to the west. So there you have it.

The English who came over to America to settle came on the pretense of "freedom of religion". All the other "religions" use this phrase as a way to push their beliefs. But, if anyone has actually done the research you will find that "freedom of religion" did not mean other religions, because there were no other religions in England at that time. The term "freedom of religion" referred to the people being free from the dictatorship of the King regarding their religion.

Its not! the founders were not Christian and anyone that tells you otherwise doesnt know history, The Churches tell people that to make you believe more strongly. The founders came here for religious freedom because England was turning into a theocracy and they wanted freedom from that. A good deal of the framers of the constitution were freemasons and believe in separation of church and state, when you hear," this is a Christian nation" that is completely made up by neo conservative and the evangelical church who wants nothing more than to get in your wallet. The more souls they save the more money for there cause and ultimately themselves, I guess they didnt obey the part in the bible where it says," money is the root of all evil" .So if someone says this is a Christian nation you can clearly state no its not its a Free nation and it doesnt belong to any one specific group.

The reason this country was started was many people were fleeing from religious persecution. Many of those people were from puritain, quaker, and other "Christian Based" religious sects that were being persecuted by the Catholic Church and others who thought that the only way to "worship" was their way, and anyone who though differently was thrown in prison or killed. While there are those who say that people need to go back and re-read history, look closely at the Decleration of Independence that actually founded this country (not the constitution)

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

We, therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name, and by authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States.

Those are portions of the Decleration of Independence and I would like to point out a couple of highlights. The founding fathers obviously believed in "God" as they mentioned him as Nature's God, all men our created equal and endowed by their creator, and the third mention is Supreme Judge of the World.

Now some may argue that they are not referring to a particular God, but as a majority of them held a Christian belief system of some sort it is a simple and logical conclussion that they were referring to the Christian belief system.

One last point I would like to make--in the face of national tragedy I would like to point out (as in the case of 9-11) that it was okay to sing Christian songs about God and pray and go to churches, but once everyone has moved on they go back to complaining about it, I would like to ask you and other readers why is it okay in the worst of times but not in the best of times.

America is a christian country b/c HITLER! Which I thinks was a total guiness...anyways...Hitler killed off any he didnt like pretty much. Im sure you know the Hitler story. But think about how many people he killed...most being Jewish. If Hitler never existed Jewdism...I think thats waht they call it... would be Americas religion. He made an iimpact for ever.

America is not a Christian country, it is only predominantly Christian. We have a separation of church and state, and anyone who says we were founded as a Christian nation is spreading lies.

The original founding fathers were Deists, not Christian. They believed in the moral teachings of the Bible, but not the miracles. They also followed theory of evolution.
