To quote "Message in a Bottle" by The Police: "Love can mend your life, but love can break your heart"

Love can pick up all the broken pieces of your life and mend them. For instance, if you and your family members have been lost for years, love can bring you back together and glue you back together. If you ever felt like everything in your life was just all wrong, and nothing good happened to you, then when that special one came into your life, suddenly your life is perfect it seems. All the pieces have been put together. Life made sense.

Of course, love has the capacity to break your heart, if your loved one can no longer be with you or God forbids, cheated on you, or did some other things that hurted you.

But to be sure, it is better to have loved than never loved.

I think it is basically saying that depending on how the relationship goes and whether the other person returns your love, being in love can make your problems seem insignificant and lift you up. It can also destroy you if things don't go well or your love is not returned. 'Love is a rollercoaster and I'm gonna ride it all night long'.

..that love always hurts.. that you haven't really loved unless you've had your heart broken.. but LOVE no matter how it hurts.. is worth all the pain because it makes you complete..

that's how it means.. i think..
