I recently gave birth and we named our son Damian James. My father and uncle say that his name is "Evil" and he will be picked on a lot in school for this also he refuses to call my son by his name almost seems as though he wants nothing to do with him... he is not a religious person but recenlty he referred to my son as "the boy"... should I let this irritate me? How do I get my father to accept his Grandson?? I have two other children and he seems to love them and treats them normal...

Your father is equating the name of your son to the name of the child character in "The Omen". The name has nothing to do with being "evil" and your father and uncle are simply being bull headed. I suggest you tell your father that until he can accept your son by his given name he won't be able to see any of his grandchildren. In my opinion he is being stupid.

Damian isn't an evil name. I think your Dad and uncle are pulling a fast one on you. What you could do to cure his superstition is to let him check out your baby's head on both sides, check behind the ears to show him there are no "666's". What you could do is ask him if he would hold the baby while you go run an errand or something. I'm sure he'll warm up to the baby soon enough. Maybe he's upset you didn't name the baby after him? Things will be fine. By the way, that was a joke about looking for "666"!

I don't blame you for being irritated and hurt. Your father is being ridiculous. Damian was the name of an evil kid in a movie and it has nothing to do with anything evil in real life. It's just a name. I think you should tell him how much this hurts you and how petty he is acting. I think maybe he needs to know how you are feeling.

I think you need to sit them both down and have a serious talk with them. The fact that they discriminate against your son because of his name is not acceptable nor is it fair for any of your children.

I think you also need to remind him of where the name Damian really came from.

DAMIAN

Gender: Masculine

Usage: English, Polish

Pronounced: DAY-mee-an (English), DAHM-yahn (Polish) [key]
From the Greek name Δαμιανος (Damianos) which was derived from Greek δαμαω (damao) "to tame". Saint Damian was martyred with his twin brother Cosmo early in the 4th century. They are the patron saints of physicians. Another saint by this name was Saint Peter Damian, an 11th-century cardinal and theologian from Italy.

The only reason the name Damian has evil connotations is because of a movie.

The boy's and girl's name Damian is pronounced DAY-mee-en. It is of Greek origin. Possibly means "to tame, subdue", though the Greek root is also close to the word for "spirit". The Belgian priest Father Damien is honored as the man who gave his life helping the lepers of Molokai in Hawaii. Saint Damien (third century) is known as the patron saint of physicians. Demyan is the Russian form. Author Damon Runyon; ballet dancer Damien Woetzel.

Damian has 19 variant forms: Daemon, Daimen, Daimon, Daman, Damen, Dameon, Damiano, Damianos, Damianus, Damien, Damion, Damon, Damyan, Damyen, Damyon, Dayman, Daymian, Daymon and Demyan.

Other similar baby name suggestions for Damian are Dacian, Darian and Davian. Search for more names similar to Damian starting with Da-, Dam-, Dami- or ending with -an, -ian.

Tell them to grow up, the name Damian is not evil, it was just used in a movie about it, by being used in a movie doesnt make the name evil, if it did then what about Freddie, or Jason, or Rosemary, then they would be considered evil also.

You need to tackle this and not to let it fester. I had similar problems with my in-laws referring to my first son as 'The Prince'. Nauseating. He was the treasure of my heart but did not need a title. I did nothing about it and it eventually caused great problems between us.

Speak to your father and explain that although he might not like the name, your son is as worthy of respect as your other children. He must not grow up sensing he is not on an equal footing to his siblings. Best of luck.

;- ) it’s funny.

The grandfather (father of my wife) of my child did the same, proud and old fashion. He thought that the name was weird, etc...

So, he give our child many pets name, friendly names never his name. It took 6 - 9 months before he start to use it.

I ignored the situation, he can not continue it forever and the child will grow up and it will look ridiculous from his site. My comment to him in the beginning was:
- That it will look weird to his friends, family and environment weird, that he does not know or not will use the name.
- And when the child grows up, he will ignore him as well.... despite that he loves the others more... a brother, sister connection goes deeper than a 2nd level relation.

Just ignore it and let it go.

As irritating as it is to you, your father seems to be set in his ways. Just because he calls him "the boy" doesn't mean that he dislikes the child it is just the name. Give him time and he will come around.
