Listen to rap songs with explicit lyrics { ex. i wanna f*** you, I wanna lick your ***y ect..} and he blast them in his room and she does not care and she lets him watch R movies. She tries not to be strict, but I'm getting fed up with all of it. Is there any way I can tell her that its inappropriate without sounding like a whiny , selfish cry baby? We're a normal family, we live in a good neighborhood and stuff, so we're not disfunctional or anything..

He recently got into rap about a year or 2 ago when he started middle school. He calls everyone '*****' ( we are white..) and he calls me 'ho' and '*****'.

I know I can't tell her how to parent but I'm fed up with it. This is bull and if it was happening to you, you would think the same thing and not go "oh you can't do anything about it!" >:C

Listening to rap music and watching R rated movies doesnt make your family disfunctional. But if you recognize a problem within your family then you should address it. He definately shouldnt be calling you those names. And being a good parent to her kids should be more important to her than being a good friend to her kids.

Well actually, try to make him stop the music blasting on the grounds that it makes too much noise, not on the grounds of censorship. From personal experience, there is nothing wrong with being exposed to that kind of world, as long as there is an understanding (although people may make jokes about it in public any how which is perfectly fine as this is a free country with free speech) that the degrading contents are wrong. My philosophy is that how do you appreciate happiness when you don't see sadness. How do you know good not knowing and completely understanding evil?

Allow your brother to watch and listen to those as he please, but also engrave or promote a spirit or sense of virtue in the household, I think that's the best way to handle the situation.

Your brother has become a rude, obnoxious brat. If your mom hears him talking to you like that you should ask her politely, "Why do you let him act like a filthy mouthed gangster?"

Asking her rather than telling her she is wrong to allow it gives her a chance to make the decision.

Also, there is no mention of a dad so I fear he is no longer living there. (Which might explain some of the problems)

Perhaps you could find a sensible "big brother" that your little brother would listen to and help him that way get back to reality. It is only a matter of time before he uses those words on the wrong person out of habit and gets seriously beaten up....

Nothing wrong with rap. I live in a nice neighborhood too, but I also live in a city. 7 year olds listen to that crap down here and most of us grow up fine. Just chill out.

Best thing to do would be to politely ask your brother to keep the music down to his room only and watch the movies when your not around. Let him do his thing and he will respect you when you have your ways of doing things. I have to agree that just cause he wants to listen to that stuff, doesn't mean you should have to. More than likely if your mom tells him not to, it will only make him want to do it more. That's how alot of kids are. I have to admit though, if i had a 13 year old, i would raise him to be a gentleman, and my kids would not be listening to that trash. Just be upfront and let your mom know it bothers you. Wish you the best of luck.

Hmm your mom's taking the liberal route to parenting. I'm glad you recognize that she should be more authoritative, but it's hard to get people to change especially older people. They tend to become stuck in their ways and often refuse to see that they're lax parenting maybe detrimental to their children. You need to find time to get your mother alone and have a discussion with her. Somewhere she will have to take you seriously. You need to express how you feel regarding the matter in a calm and even tone while making eye contact to show her that your really serious and concerned. You sound very level headed and I have faith that you can get your mother to see that this isn't the right way to go about this. Good Luck!

I am 25, I started listening to rap at 11(i was almost the only one) years and most poeple my aged started at 17or 18. I grew up to be very normal and a cut above the rest. Let him enjoy his youth, its normal. You are you and he is him. You prob got a lot of habits he hates as well. Everybody nowadays curses a lot nowadays, f*ck this f*ck that. sorry but hip-hop is addictive, if you try to stop him, its only gonna strengthen his passion. he will learn as he grows up how to apply hip-hop possitively in his life, he is at puberty stage so let him go wild. Buy him all Eminem discs

wait how old are you? are you older than him or younger? if you're older than just tell him to turn down the music, or be careful, or just reproach him. but it sounds like you might be younger so if you are then leave it to your brother to do that stuff. your mom probably doesn't like that he's doin all that but he needs to experiment and learn for himself instead of getting cooped up and then blast it all out in college. but sometimes tell your mom what he's doing and ask why she lets him.
